Games for Windows Live Is Free At Last!
Posted by Regeneration on July 23rd, 2008, 12:19 PM

Five months ago, NGOHQ.com initiated a boycott campaign against Microsoft’s Games for Windows – Live. We were very unhappy with several issues such as: additional fees and poor world wide availability. The fact is… our boycott received a lot of exposure and support from unhappy users that were fed up with Microsoft’s attempt to bring the Xbox Live module to our beloved PC industry.

Yesterday at the GameFest 2008 conference in Seattle, Microsoft finally came to its senses and announced that Games for Windows – Live will be totally free effective immediately. That means all Live features such as TruSkill, and Cross-platform gaming is now available free to PC gamers for any titles that use these features. In addition, Microsoft also said that it’s planning to make their Live interface less bloated and more gamer friendly.

It seems that Microsoft has finally decided to listen to their customers, partners, developers, publishers and the press. We are very pleased to see that so many users refused to pay and made Live on PC into complete failure. In light of Microsoft’s announcement last night, we have decided to end our boycott of Games for Windows – Live.

We would like to thank everyone for helping and supporting our effort.

i still want to boycott it because the banner on your page tells me to, who is with me?

I didn't join the boycott because GFWL wasn't free, but instead because it's too restrictive and only supported in 24ish countries etc. I'm still gonna boycott it.

I'm sorry, but I urge to continue the boycott for games for windows live. I have bought Fallout 3: operation anchorage and for some reason i t can't install. I am running XP pro 64 bit, and also can't seem to get GFWL to start anymore, after reinstalling it to try to get it to work. I have the XP fix, but it says my updatebr.ini is invalid. I had to buy 1000 microsoft points to buy an 800 point add-on....and it didn't work. I currently cannot get GFWL to install any program I download from it, or to return my points or my money. I'm sorry. this is crap for pc gamers. Microsoft is working their way to complete control. Stop them now, by not giving them ur money. they screwed me (a grown man who builds his own computers and many for his friends.) And they have screwed many underage kids who bought points for the add-on, but were not able to download it because of and underage account. Its all a scheme. Buy the points, and its non-refundable. Once you find out that you can't get what you wanted, you don't get your money back. In my case, I bought what I wanted with points, but it wont install due to some security problem. So I bought useless, non refundable software. F Microsft. and boycott their money rich power scheme as well.
