| | | AMD to Promote DirectX 10.1 Among Game Developers | AMD's newfound zest for life has made it look for what would really, really hurt the competition. The answer? the game developers. I'm not sure if you've heard, but Blizzard has grown pretty big these days. World of WarCraft has been an indescribable success. It's been known for a while that Blizzard has been looking at implementing DirectX 10.1 with one of its future games. The fact is that it's more than one, or two.
If AMD has played its cards right, Blizzard is not only looking to implement DX10.1 support, and in best-AMD-case scenario, DX10.1-exclusive effects, with future games, but also patch current games with DX10.1 for additional performance and effects. If everything comes together for AMD, this means that StarCraft 2, Diablo 3, future World of WarCraft add-ons, and more games from Blizzard will sport DX10.1, something which NVIDIA is unable to handle hardware-wise.

| | | | 17 Comments | | | This was bound to happen sooner or later.....DX 10.1 supported games, I am glad blizzard is the first one to implement 10.1 support in Diablo III. | | | | I want to play mario bros in dx10.1 ;-) It could be really interesting :-)
But seriously i'm glad they gonna do somethin like that. | | | | Starcraft2, and Diablo3 WILL NOT be sporting Dx10.1, they are both evolutions of the WC3 engine, and that is Dx8 at the most basic |

They are both said to be built on new engines though im sure they are probably heavily modified old ones, regadless they will both be supporting havok, starcraft will definetly be supportind dx10 and Diablo will probably be as well. Blizzard has not officially released anything to my knowladde so there is a chance that 10.1 will be supported. | | | | Starcraft2 is not Dx10. Quote: Will StarCraft II take advantage of DirectX 10? What other graphical goodies are included?
The game will be compatible with DirectX 10, and we're still considering whether there will be exclusive DirectX 10 graphic effects, but the graphics engine will also be very scalable to ensure that a wide range of different systems will be capable of running StarCraft II. The new engine is also capable of rendering very large units, as well as large numbers of units on screen together. Havok physics have been integrated into the engine for added realism as well.
| | | | | read the official faq, infact they are considering including dx10 exlusive effects | | | | Quote:

that was from the official faq.
Blizzard never makes new engines from scratch where it isn't needed, if you remember, Starcraft was just a heavily modified Warcraft2 engine.
Heres hoping they include an opengl mode like with WC3. | | | | here is an excerpt from the faq

Im sure its not a new engine from scratch but honestly it doesnt look like the warcraft 3 engine it looks like the original starcraft engine modded, it doesnt say anything in the faq about what engine they are using only that its "new"
I find the graphics a bit of a slap to the face personally, it looks pretty much like the original starcraft, like they took t he original engine, added a couple effects and bam there is starcraft 2, I dont know about anyone else but thus far im dissapointed with sc2 |

| Quote | | | | | the Warcraft3 engine is actually quite moddable, i've seen a few custom maps with injected textures, which definitely change the look.
and it does look like the old starcraft, except it won't be stuck at 640x480, will have crisper effects (won't look like ass on an lcd) and if you remember, Starcraft looked nothing like Warcraft3, just like Blood looks nothing like Duke3D, though they both use the build engine. its amazing what you can do when you start playing with the engine
Makes me wonder what they'll do with warcraft 4 now. | | | | I guess I just wish they would have done more with it, really evolved the graphics and made it worth of the title, right now it just looks like a starcraft expansion not a sequel.
Hoping Diablo 3 will be better, Ive enjoed the series up to now.
As per wc4, i just hope its better then wc3 which bored me to tears | | | | some of the graphics are too plasticy. | | | | Quote:
