3DMark Vantage 1.0.0
Posted by Regeneration on April 28th, 2008, 02:58 PM

3DMark Vantage is the new industry standard PC gaming performance benchmark from Futuremark, newly designed for Windows Vista and DirectX10. It includes two new graphics tests, two new CPU tests, several new feature tests, and support for the latest hardware. 3DMark Vantage is based on a completely new rendering engine, developed specifically to take full advantage of DirectX10, the new graphics API from Microsoft.

Note #1:
The trial version will be usable for a single benchmark run! that means if you wish to run 3DMark Vantage more then once, you will have to purchase it.

Note #2: 3DMark Vantage requires Windows Vista and DirectX10 Compliant graphics card, and does not work in any other operating systems or with sub-DX10 graphics cards.

I can see futuremark's reasoning behind this. The average vista users is also likely to pay to just run a benchmark more than once. Nothing wrong with that.

I won't be running it even once. Not if a purchase is required to use it beyond that.

Really stupid move on the part of Futuremark.

I'm going to run in once on a friend's 8600gt core2 vista laptop for a laugh. My money's on single digit fps.

Well, the thing is: With ATI releasing new drivers every month, just about everyone I know is going to want to compare performance from month to month...at the least!

Whoever came up with the purchase requirement needs to be hung upside down outside the 10th floor of the building by their ankles until they recant.

It’s a very unwise decision for them. But, well, that’s their software and it’s their right to do whatever they want. If you don’t like their policy, don’t buy it! 3DMark Vantage is not critical software after all, we can all live without it. I haven’t tried it and from what it seems, I don’t plan to.

If you ask me, they should be paying us for promoting their product for free in our reviews. But if they are expecting me to pay 500 bucks, they are wrong. Instead, I'd make some script that automatically benchmark games, and create score based on the results, it will take me like 30 minutes to make something like that, and it will be completely free.

Yes, it's their software to do with as they please. I understand that.

But, there has always been a slimmed down free version of it all the way back to Mad Onion. (I still have the '99 version somewhere...and the 2001 version.}

People have been glad to pay for the Pro version of these and I would assume the same people would do that if a Pro version were to be offered for the Vantage release.

I think they shot themselves in the foot on this one.

i have an idea of what they can do with their software...
