Name the Game Contest II: Only One Day Left!
Posted by Regeneration on March 7th, 2008, 03:31 AM

There is nothing better than getting free stuff! Well, this month we are giving away a Radeon HD 3850 Graphics Card. Anyway, we don't like the usual-boring-contest-style; we want it to be fun and challenging. So we have launched this Name the Game Contest II. What do you have to do?

Please don't post the answer/hints on the forums, use the contact us page instead.

well ive played quite a few, the whole final fatasy series, cronotrigger, zelda, quite a few others, and mind you im no 8bit midi music fanatic it all sounds pretty much thesame to, different notes sames crummy syth, and as for the graphics, asside from a few most of them look thesame with different colors and shaped buildings

anyways, good games but i think the only sound i could destiguish would be the ff victory tune lol

Really ? I found it real easy to guess.

I had an idea that it was probably this game from seeing the image and as soon as the sound started playing I was certain.

If you have ever played this game you would remember too .. it's hard to forget.
Awesome game .. after the contest is over and the name is revealed I suggest you and others who haven't played it try it out.

well guess i might have not played that one if its that obvious music does sound kind of familiar but other then guesses i dont have much ... guess ill wait for those clues down the line and maybe they will clear things up abit more
Quote
omg from where did you dig up this old game

Shame we can't write clues here .. I can think of so many good ones , it's killing me.
On the other hand , with fewer people being able to guess the game , I stand a much better chance of winning.

right less ppl know better chance you get to win but then i aint so sure reg will be thrilled of a too small pool of guessers thats why i guess he said he would drop some clues. but who known maybe imm wrong hope for you that i am

How about this for all of you Gen-x gamer n00bs. I have the box, the 5.25in Floppy, the instructions, the registration card, AND the "copy protection" that came with it.

(as gay as it sounds, I still have all of my old game boxes and their contents)

I may have to consolidate though... moving in with my gf is going to severely hamper my ability to have shelves of all the game boxes on display.

I even have the 256 Color version of Leisure Suit Larry 1

Doc

PS: I must say that the image was difficult, but as soon as the song started, I mean the second that the first note played... I knew what game it was. Everyone is dead on... this game was THE SHIZNIT back in the day. I mean seriously... the first real story driven game.

You guys are kidding right...? Maybe you guys need to stop taking whatever drugs you guys are on, and chill. It was meant in jest... maybe you all need to stop acting like "hot shots". I'd like to know when n00b became an offensive term. Quit taking yourselves so serious and chill.

First off, unless you're my grandfathers age, I ain't your kid.

Secondly... where's the tip? Tip? What tip? Copy protection??? You mean like Zak McKracken, Mines of Titan, and several other hundreds of 5.25in Floppy based games that had that type of copy protection?!?!?! Jesus, seriously... you're really showing your generation now.

Do i post on a regular basis... not at all. Do I come to NGO to look at the reviews and for research... sure. I just figured that this was a lax crowd and my comments would garner some laughs... (hence all the smileys in the post to lighten the comments). Instead people took offense... and started flaming. Doesn't make for a great welcome.

See, I don't waste too much time posting on forums unless it peaks my interest. I'm of the older generation, Intelivision, Apple ][+, Atari 2600, Commodore 64, etc... this game was one I was particularly fond of. A friend of mine pointed me to the contest and I knew the answer... so I just wanted to show a bit of humor... because most people know Leisure Suit Larry Magna Cum Laude... they have no clue about the original LS series or the Kings/Police/Space Quest series.

Most people take for granted the high fidelity sound coming out of the speakers and the High Def 30in images on their monitors nowadays... I played THE Castle Wolfenstein (not the 3d)... the little top-down, maze-like, shoot-em up that was the first game ever to try to emulate spoken language using the Apple ]['s speaker. People just can't appreciate that anymore these days. DOn't get me wrong, I couldn't go back to playing a 320x200 game anymore either, but I've seen the changes games and hardware take throughout their years, and the process is just plain fascinating. But for most people that just passes them by... kind of sad in my opinion, because a lot of these older games deserve a redo... especially this one.

sniperdoc, although i do think the guys jumped the gun a little bit and were a bit harsh with you i think what hteir trying to say is that age doesnt really impact what you would have played

im gen-x and my first 'computer' was an amiga which had a massive 2mb hd, i had the atari 2600 and played pong on it, the first console i ever played was the very first sega, its not age that defines your gaming experience and i think they just dont like being defined that way

What the point in this ?? Cos i dont get it .

"See, I don't waste too much time posting on forums unless it peaks my interest."

I see nothing wrong with this post I took is as lighthearted myself being 40 I did play Leisure Suit Larry on an 8086 lol. Welcome to NGOHQ.com sniperdoc and I think some folks on this thread need to lighten up a bit and not take things so literally.

So lets get back to the contest it is open to members and readers best of luck to all

>Go north
The Troll Room
This is a small room with passages to the east and south and a forbidding hole leading west. Bloodstains and deep scratches (perhaps made by an axe) mar the walls.
A nasty-looking troll, brandishing a bloody axe, blocks all passages out of the room.
