| | | Boycott Games for Windows - Live |
We have decided to start a boycott campaign against Microsoft’s Games for Windows – Live service because it’s violating our rights as PC gamers. Microsoft is pushing hard to make online PC gaming exactly like the Xbox’s. They want us to pay additional costs to subscribe to their Live service, and pay more monthly fees for a gold account, or to use the barely/non-working Silver account. Even if a gamer surrenders his soul for the attached fees to Microsoft; he may not even be able to purchase a subscription because the Live service is only available in 26 countries out of the 196 countries. This means that gamers from 170 countries are currently unable to purchase gold subscriptions even if they want to.
These two main issues put the future of online PC gaming at serious risk. This is what convinced us someone needed to start a boycott campaign against the Games for Windows – Live service. This became imminent to preserve online gaming and gamers rights. Of course Microsoft is a multi-millionaire corporation and they probably won’t care about this boycott, but game developers and publishers are more vulnerable to boycotts, and therefore we will target them instead. Sega, Eidos and THQ already signed to bring more Games for Windows – Live titles. The clock is ticking, now it’s the time to stop it. Update: In light of Microsoft’s announcement last night, we have decided to end our boycott of Games for Windows – Live. |

Steam is not asking us to pay for the "service" or anything, you just buy a game and that's it. Microsoft wants us to pay for imaginary services. Of course its easy for you to say, I'm sure the US is great. What about Russia and China? even if they want to pay, they can't.
Yet again, the FREE Silver service is very limited, not working in most of the games, and if it's working for you, it doesn't mean its working for everyone else. |

| | | | | | Just to show you how wrong you are, I’ve downloaded The Club from Steam and made a small video for you to watch (and learn!). The Club’s price on Amazon is $47, and in my country is around to $60. Oh, and yeah, XviD is required for the video. | | | | Quote:

Now, here's the rub: Has anyone actually thought to ask Microsoft just WHY these other countries are not presently on this list? I'd be willing to wager that 'they' don't really care. The real reason for this entire 'boycott' is just to grab attention.
Well, that's about it from this end of the world. Back to Halo 2...... | | | | lol. "Posted on May 9, 2007", That's like a year ago and still no changes. Try to sign into Xbox live and check it out yourself, you will see only 26 countries.
One year without any changes means: "We expand our services frequently" is a lie. If a service like Steam offers international support, then Live should be able to offer the same.
Try to sign to Live now, you will see 26 countries in the list. I know that, because I checked it two days ago. Our source for information is not what Microsoft said, but by checking out ourselves.
I called Microsoft and asked them about it, but I never heard from them/him. If you want to argue, come up with facts, not fanboy theories.
The entire idea for this boycott is to create awareness. Since Microsoft wants to make Live into a global standard and collect additional fees for nothing. That’s not okay, but somehow “tolerable”, but the fact this service is only available to 26 countries out of 257 is making it to unaccepted. Don’t be selfish. We are not speaking about game’s prices or pirated games; we are speaking about legitimate users and the poor Live service.
If you don’t agree with the primary reason (Silver/Gold saga), that’s fine. But coming here and trashing about this boycott, is very-very selfish. You don’t agree, fine! Don’t trash it. Gamers from 231 countries are UNABLE to use Xbox Live or Windows Live.
I’m very disappointed with all these comments. If someone from Microsoft/Developer/Publisher is coming to read these comments, and see that you don’t care paying fees for nothing, and you don’t care that your friends are unable to sign up, I doubt they will even care.
You should support your friends from far away, and not to be selfish. If this is what most of the people think, then I hope they will remove the Silver account, increase the fees by 1000% and treat you like shit, because that’s what you deserve. If you’re acting like that, don’t be surprised if will happen. |

| | | | | | We are talking about MICROSOFT. Now, do some thinking. Do you really think that if Microsoft could put Windows LIVE! into every nook and cranny of the globe that they would NOT do it?? There are valid reasons for certain things not being done the way you think they should be. There's licensing, permits, not even to mention Internet connectivity.
I'm no 'fanboy' of Microsoft. But, all I read here on this site is how 'evil' Microsoft is all the time. It doesn't matter if they do good or bad, they get the shaft from this site no matter what.
I really don't care if you're disappointed in my comments. I don't have to support a silly non-issue boycott. But, all the others who are falling in line to sign up, more power to them. At least there are a few others who also disagree like I do. If you think people should only post if they agree, then YOU'RE the one who's selfish. | | | | Microsoft has created there market share using monopolistic techniques to limit the market. They are also forcing other companies out of business or buying them out. MS is limiting Live for the same reason they probably know how to fix Vista but won't. They limit and force the market share and thats that. They own it and you !!
As for us not buying things ya know what the only thing I have here I haven't paid for is the audio card I won. Dyre on NGOHQ.com we don't have to kiss someones ass to get somewhere like another board I know of. So if you want talk about selfish why don't you look there and don't send me anymore fucking PM's when things aren't rosy there ... look where you are yourself before you criticize others .... |
