We have decided to start a boycott campaign against Microsoft’s Games for Windows – Live service because it’s violating our rights as PC gamers. Microsoft is pushing hard to make online PC gaming exactly like the Xbox’s. They want us to pay additional costs to subscribe to their Live service, and pay more monthly fees for a gold account, or to use the barely/non-working Silver account. Even if a gamer surrenders his soul for the attached fees to Microsoft; he may not even be able to purchase a subscription because the Live service is only available in 26 countries out of the 196 countries. This means that gamers from 170 countries are currently unable to purchase gold subscriptions even if they want to.
These two main issues put the future of online PC gaming at serious risk. This is what convinced us someone needed to start a boycott campaign against the Games for Windows – Live service. This became imminent to preserve online gaming and gamers rights. Of course Microsoft is a multi-millionaire corporation and they probably won’t care about this boycott, but game developers and publishers are more vulnerable to boycotts, and therefore we will target them instead. Sega, Eidos and THQ already signed to bring more Games for Windows – Live titles. The clock is ticking, now it’s the time to stop it. Update: In light of Microsoft’s announcement last night, we have decided to end our boycott of Games for Windows – Live.

this isnt just about live, but youve so missed the point that me writing all of this is a waste of time really | your missing the point... the main important feature in which the boycott is esentially about is free.. you can still play your pc games online with other people on the pc like you always did... none of the features that you would need to pay for a subscription are more of secondary benefits of a paid subscription, ie better matchmaking services and other perks like cross platform multiplayer... that means pc <-> 360 games. and you could still use your free methods for comunication.. ie msn etc...

What the point in having a free account if there are no free servers? I tried all the games in the list, and I couldn’t play in most (If not all) of them. The last title I tried was Kane and Lynch, and I couldn’t play its MP part at all, and the game browser is very poor. | Option or not, that's not a reason. Consumers buy these games, and they should be able to play these games FULLY.
Live (Xbox/Windows) should be totally FREE.
Let’s take the Xbox for example: In the US it’s pretty cheap, but around the world the price can reach to $1000 USD and more. So if I want to use Xbox online, I have to buy the console and games ($100 USD per new titles). After I spent around to $1000, why the hell should I pay additional fees for Live? That’s totally unfair. Oh wait, I can’t even pay! Live is UNAVAILABLE in my country, so I can forget about Xbox Live.
Soon I won’t be able to play on my PC too. Unranked, Ranked, Automatch, Gold, Silver, White, Black, it doesn’t matter. This is the fact: If you want to have FULL online capabilities, you have to buy GOLD! And that’s wrong. When I buy a game, I'm paying for both SP and MP, and I don't want to see any kind of Silver/Gold/Red in it. 100% functionality for all.
I don’t know what’s going on in the US, maybe you guys just like to pull out your credit cards and pay for no reasons - but we don’t like it. but since you guys like LIVE so much, let's make a deal! Let's limit Live only for the US, and introduce FREE service to rest of the world? |

It seems that, if ANYTHING costs any money at all, you're against it. Period! But, I've had Halo 2 and Shadowrun since last summer and never bothered even using the Free Gold Card account INCLUDED in the boxes until only a couple of weeks ago. And, using the FREE Silver Account, I've been able to play the games just fine!! PC-PC gamers are NOT prevented from playing with the FREE Silver Account. Whatsoever! Setting up servers doesn't cost anything, either!
This isn't to say that Windows Live! is perfect. But, neither is Steam!
Now, how many remember how godawful STEAM was when it first came out? I HATED Steam and most everyone else did, too! But, it's come a long way since its inception and people now are raving about how STEAM works. And, yes, the games can be played for free once they've been PURCHASED. But, you see, the problem here on NGOHQ is that NO ONE wants to even BUY the games themselves!! So, not only do you not want to PAY for the games, you don't even want to have to pay any money to be able to play them LEGITIMATELY!
So, anyway, while you're all boycotting Windows Live! because of the stated 'excuses' mentioned above, I'll continue to enjoy my gaming experience whether it's with Windows Live!, Steam, or otherwise.
