| | | Boycott Games for Windows - Live |
We have decided to start a boycott campaign against Microsoft’s Games for Windows – Live service because it’s violating our rights as PC gamers. Microsoft is pushing hard to make online PC gaming exactly like the Xbox’s. They want us to pay additional costs to subscribe to their Live service, and pay more monthly fees for a gold account, or to use the barely/non-working Silver account. Even if a gamer surrenders his soul for the attached fees to Microsoft; he may not even be able to purchase a subscription because the Live service is only available in 26 countries out of the 196 countries. This means that gamers from 170 countries are currently unable to purchase gold subscriptions even if they want to.
These two main issues put the future of online PC gaming at serious risk. This is what convinced us someone needed to start a boycott campaign against the Games for Windows – Live service. This became imminent to preserve online gaming and gamers rights. Of course Microsoft is a multi-millionaire corporation and they probably won’t care about this boycott, but game developers and publishers are more vulnerable to boycotts, and therefore we will target them instead. Sega, Eidos and THQ already signed to bring more Games for Windows – Live titles. The clock is ticking, now it’s the time to stop it. Update: In light of Microsoft’s announcement last night, we have decided to end our boycott of Games for Windows – Live. |

| | | | 128 Comments | | | sign me up... what a bunch full of bulls**t!!!! | | | | Without even knowing these details I would have stayed away from it, but now I'm on board wholeheartedly... | | | | Greed of the monopoly big one is getting bigger and bigger . | | | | hi guys came across this boycott from Paul Thurrot's Blog, and i can't express how much i hate GFW - LIVE, and want to thank you for steppin up against Microsoft
Let the boycott begin!!!! | | | | I've removed Mass Effect and BioWare from the list. Mass Effect PC is not a GFW Live title. | | | | What a terrible argument. Good job justifying the boycott by citing DRM, in-game ads, buggy software, and hardware deals because we all know just how much that's related to Live.
And no, it's not unjustified and definitely not unfair to charge for the Live service. It is a service to provide the friends list, game content, and servers for online gaming. That costs money. If it wasn't for Live the Xbox's online service probably would have been like the PS2's, a load of crap. And with Live, an old favorite will still be playable online (unless EA's involved) years down the road. I can still pop in MechAssault with friends and play online. Good luck doing that with some PC games, pretty much have to hope someone else will take over for the publisher when they decide to discontinue support.
Oh and yeah $50 per year is expensive, that comes out to around $4.17 a month. For access to Live for any game for one year. Be glad it isn't $15 per month. Live's fee is much more reasonable than WoW's.
If you don't like Games for Windows Live, that's fine with me. Don't buy the games, that's your right. But I take it the real frustration is at the industry as a whole, and not just Live, which is what really frustrates me about that whole bit. So instead of boycotting a few games, grow some balls and boycott publishers that release buggy games, that hack up the release with poor DRM tech, and splatter the environments with ads, and if Live doesn't work for you boycott those games as well.
You can't have your cake and eat it too, if you want real change it's going to cost you. | | | | your completly missing the point m8, but theres really no point in trying to explain it to you, but all in all paying for live is like paying for msn, people like you are the reason this crap continues, but please by all means go give them more of your money like a good little sheep | | | | Quote:

if you actually paid attention what the pc portion of live allows you will know it will not prevent you from playing your pc games online... like you normally with the games that doesnt use the live platform...
for the pc what you are paing for is the other extras that comes with it Membership Levels
Silver Membership FeaturesGold Membership Features* Cost = FreeCost = $49.95 U.S. /year unless you’re a current Xbox Live Gold member which gives you automatic access to Gold features on Games for Windows – LIVE titlesSingle GamertagAll Silver membership featuresCommon gamer profileMultiplayer matchmaking with friendsCommon gamerscoreTrueSkill™ matchmakingSingle player achievementsMultiplayer achievementsPrivate chat via text and voiceCross-platform gameplayCommon friends list and online presencePC only multiplayer including browsing a list of active PC games
notice pc only multiplayer is on the side of the silver account..
oh and if your a xbox 360 user with a gold account, it will also be good for the pc games also.. so you dont need to buy another live account for the pc
maybe you should get the facts before you start a boycott, | | | | Quote:
