Logitech G9 Mouse Review @ BRnR
Posted by Regeneration on January 27th, 2008, 08:34 PM

Nowadays, gaming mice are following the lead of processors back in the day when “More MHz” was marketed as the answer to everything, with the emphasis on higher resolutions, faster image processing, acceleration and USB polling rates. But sheer speed alone does not a quality gaming mouse make. Case in point: Logitech's latest flagship gaming mouse that not only is fast, but allows you to “Tune For The Way You Play” - the Logitech G9 Laser Mouse.

I have a G7, and though its pretty good its not amazing - and it certainly does not give as good gaming performance increase as logitech claim.

The biggest problem is the rechargeble batteries which last about 10 mins each (having only 5 buttons is also very annoying).

strange, the batts in my g7 each last about 6 to 8 hours of heavy use and charge fully in 4 or 5 hours so i never run out of battery.
it also performs better than any mouse i've owned, all the previous models of logitech pretty much...
also i like having fewer buttons to get in the way. i have an mx1000, too many buttons for gaming and too heavy...
i don't see what's so great about the g9. i could never go back to that tether. there's nothing more annoying than getting killed because the damn cord got snagged. the g7 is the ideal shape i think and adding weight is utterly ridiculous...

honestly, i dont care how cool something is, if its wireless then im not interested, nothing more agrivating then runing out of juice half way through a game or having to recharge stuff before you can use it, i have absolutly no problems with wires, have never gotten in the way

interesting, i have yet to be killed in a game for lack of battery but that cord has ruined my game more times than i could possibly count...

changing batts on a lot devices can be troublesome but changing the batt on the g7 is no more difficult or time consuming than picking it and putting it back down. they supply you with two, tiny li-ion cells that slide quickly in and out of a slot on the bottom. the only thing that could be easier is to have someone do it for you. it is a great design.

the battery also charges from the usb so there is no charging cradle to return the mouse to, and better still, no wall wart.
to me, the need to return the mouse to the charger was always much more annoying than changing batteries. g7 doesn't even need to be turned off necessarily because the sleep mode requires so little power, it wakes up immediately too...

i guess i've been using it for a year or so and i have no complaints about the g7 really. unlike many wireless devices it rarely skips a beat. it is certainly one of the most satisfying computer periferals i have purchased in the last 15 years, money well spent, i wouldn't trade it for another...

I'm with blindartist on this one. Down with wireless. Wireless can never compete with the superior response, lower weight and better design of wired.

exactly, and if you have your desk set up right then your mouse cable should have plent of slack and no abstratctions to get snaged on, ive never had a problem

have either of you two dudes ever tried a g7?

actually i would have thought the same thing after using several optical mouses (that the respose just wouldn't there) but i assure the g7 is in a different class and you won't know until you've tried one...

don't knock it 'til you try it...

theres plenty of great wired mice out there, no need to bother with wireless

To be fair, the G7 is actually a pretty damn good mouse and is comparable to, if not better than most wired mice. My problem with it was the lack of a second "back/forward" button (there is only one).

I would recommend it to anyone. I was being sarcastic about the batteries, they last about 6 hours each (not 10 mins!!!) but still this is no where near long enough. I use my mouse so much I need a battery that lasts at least 12 hours or is permanently being re-charged on a dock or station.
