ATI Catalyst 8.1 Hotfix
Posted by Regeneration on January 17th, 2008, 06:32 AM

In addition to Catalyst 8.1, ATI/AMD has also released a Catalyst 8.1 Hotfix to address the following issues: Problems with DirectX and Radeon AGP Graphics cards and Crysis DirectX 10 Performance using Crossfire. This driver is provided as is and is not supported by AMD. It has not completed full AMD testing, and is only recommended for users experiencing the particular issue described above. You gotta love corporate bureaucracy!

I'll test Crysus to see if hotfix changes anything
on the other hand ... 8.1 brings some major drop in 3DMark06 ... not very good

later:
nope ... no improvement ... AMD/ATi did a cr*p job with this driver release ... I'm feeling it's getting worse by the month

This is bollocks, i am sick to the back teeth of ATI and the shit service they have offered AGP owners, my X1950 Pro has not worked right since day one and i am bloody sick ot it.

Smartgart my fat arse, dumbgart more like.

I am putting my 6800GT back in cos at least it works unlike this bag of shite.

Goodbye ATi and VIA and welcome back Nvidia from next week

I have never used SMARTGART .... the X1950 I used is PCI-E based not AGP ... what exactly are the issues you are having ?

No AGP as shown in the image mate, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. I know i will never buy ATI or VIA as long as i live, it is a nightmare combo.

VIA has always been a PITA with ATI cards bro and one thing I had to do with the X1950 even the PCI-E version is go to the ASrock site and update the VIA drivers and also my BIOS on my mainboard.

I was getting like 600 on 3Dmark6 until then and afterwards I was getting around 2500 on this old Prescott based Celeron .. it made a huge difference if you haven't tried that do so

Oddly since i ordered the new mobo last week this Ati and VIA combo has worked a treat and on the odd occation it does start with no AGP it is a simple tell it to retest and it works again rather than spending half an hour to get it going, talk about ghosts in the machine

I am sending the new stuff back cos i have no need for it if this is going to work like it has been doing over the last few days, the only thing i have done is install the latest omega driver with the new icons, installing the same version but with the old icons made no difference to the AGP nonsence.

I am slightly confiused but at the same time quite happy LOL

LOL thats the way it goes but on AGP / ATI and VIA I always look after VIA first ........
