AMD Shuffles Timetable For Phenom Processors

Advanced Micro Devices on Friday said it has changed the release dates for its latest Phenom desktop processors in order to better serve the highest-volume segment of the market. Rather than ship the 2.4-GHz 9700 and the 2.6-GHz 9900 this quarter, the quad-core processors are expected to be released in the second quarter, AMD said. Both chips are aimed at computer enthusiasts, who account for about 5% of the market.

Intel is delaying some 45nm parts as well. I designing and manufacturing high performance enthusiast CPUs was easy everyone + their dogs + their dogs' dogs would be doing it.

its not rocket science anymore, they have no problems cranking these or better out, i have no doubt theyve already got cpu's for a year or two down the road drawn up, amd is delaying because they want to pull in some more capita before manufacturing these and intel is delaying because they dont feel they need to launch em yet, they feel no threat from amd's line
