[CES 2008] ATI Radeon HD 3870 X2 Spotted
Posted by Regeneration on January 8th, 2008, 08:57 PM

We can't disclose any specifications just yet, but can say that the 3870 X2 has a pair of R670 GPUs on single PCB coupled together via a PCI Express fanout switch from PLX. Frame Buffer memory configurations are likely to be similar to existing Radeon HD 3870 cards - per GPU - but representatives from ATI informed us that board parters are likely to design cards with up to 2GB frame buffers.

enough with the two gpu cards already, come up with something new!

atleast this one sounds a little more interesting then the 9800

ehehhehehehe
well that card may be something (if price is good)
we all know that cross is better(faster) connection than sli
so i hope that this card will be cheap

I've heard it will be around the price of a single 2900XT.
I really want ATI to get it right this time.

there is still the CrossFire optimization issue...
hard to get real benefit, even with the 7.12 drivers; maybe in January release

I think 2 GPU's on a single card is a better idea they will be able to transfer data much faster between themselves and not rely on a mylar connection cable.

And after looking at the NV 9800 pics at least I can say this one is not FUGLY

looks pretty hip but i think the r700 is gona be "the shit"...

This card is very long. Probabbly many people will change their cases too before they will buy ths card.

I'm reading at ngo last time many posts about sli and crossfire... I've read long time ago in polish paper test which compared sli with crossfire and crossfire gave for two cards 40% more performance than sli. Probably now things looks other, i'm looking for this kind of test with some later cards but i can't find it anywhere, maybe someone at ngo will make test like this, huh? :-)

I noticed the length too. If you look at 2 cards running Crossfire or SLI that have better than average cooling though they take up almost all your PCIE and PCI card area.

So either way its going to take up a lot of space but would be cool to check out
