AMD Considers Buying AGEIA
Posted by Regeneration on November 22nd, 2007, 03:32 AM

Now that communications between AMD and Havok have broken down, AMD has admitted that it’s considering buying Ageia, if the price is right. AMD’s head of developer relations, Richard Huddy, told Custom PC that ‘we’ve had that discussion, yes. It’s a discussion that goes round every three months – someone turns to me and says "why don’t we buy Ageia?’ and I go through the arguments about why we should and why we shouldn’t."

AGEIA sucks, buying them would be just another waste of money. If you want to waste your money, donate it.

Well, AGEIA probably is in a better market situation now that Intel bought Havok, since GPU physics probably isn't going to happen any time soon because of it. Still, I think those PhysX cards need to drop to around $50 and to work with developers to use PhysX not just in a totally gimmicky way like they've been doing.

i think that's stupid... instead of buying.. they should focus on future products to sell i want to see amd back to no1 where it belongs

Intel is going to tweak havoc so it favors their cpus (Another example is the intel compiler). I don't believe AGEIA is the answer.

It is if they redevelop it into a software physics engine

why they don't buy McDonald's ... it has more sense to it

Well on a positive note then they wouldn't have much work to do to fuck it up like they did ATI then right ?

i think this new cash infision they just recieved isnt being put to proper use

ACTUALLY

just did some research, it looks like Ageia already has a software physics engine

Yeah, the PhysX SDK doesn't require the PPU. Except fancy physics like liquid and cloth rape CPU's.
I really don't get why they made the SDK free for everyone. Their physics engine is supposed to be really good and easy to integrate, actually, they could've kept it as requiring a license and make a bit of money off of it.

Hey guys be smart it's will be the best choice for amd if they buy ageia ... theirs cpu will maybe better in physics if they implement an physix core in the cpu ? What dyou think about this?

They'd still have to get people to use the PhysX SDK. And they'd probably implement it in the GPU, not the CPU, though you can only do effect physics and not gameplay physics using a GPU because reading back from the GPU to the CPU is slow.
AGEIA is gonna have to get bought by somebody for them to survive, though. They have no chance in hell as an independent company unless they overhaul their business model.

i dont think that is stupid idea or a waste of money
u all know that amd/ati is trying to integrate more physics shit inside a cpus and gpus
that will be cool to see
maybe because some people love extra effects

Why don't they do something really worthwhile with their lives, like invest the money into making some competitive cpu's? It's just an idea, i didn't mean to scare anyone

p.s Unix were you & Reg just evesdropping on someone els's conversation then or something?

they should've partnered with nvidia, rather then outright buying ATI.

screw nvdia in ze po...erm

ARABIAN MICRO DEVICES??? What's that all about???

"However, Huddy says his words were taken out of context (as it usually happens with hacks), and the whole story about Arabian Micro Devices buying Ageia became fantasy."

I agree. They would've made such a better pair.

Add red to green (dark) and you get brown.

That advanced arab BS is just another joke. The UAE declined voting rights and 11 percent is hardly a critical stake. But no, these retards have to defile AMDs acronym and come up with the stupidest conclusions that would make a Dali lama dance on his head.
