| | | Crytek, Microsoft, NVIDIA Downplay DirectX 10.1 | AMD's Radeon HD 3850 and HD 3870 will be two of the hottest graphics adaptors for the 2007 holiday season. The Radeon HD 3800 series, previously codenamed RV670, is a 55nm optical shrink of the 80nm R600 architecture. One of the only features added to RV670 is the inclusion of DirectX 10.1 support, an API layer that will be rolled out with Microsoft's upcoming Windows Vista Service Pack 1.
When asked about the advantages of picking up a DirectX 10 graphics adaptor today, versus waiting for NVIDIA or AMD DirectX 10.1 products, Microsoft's senior global director of Microsoft games on Windows, Kevin Unangst, replied, "DX10.1 is an incremental update that won’t affect any games or gamers in the near future." Read More | | 13 Comments | | | 55nm that's verry good because the old 80nm... it;s just to hot i have a well cooled case and it still goes up to 76~ 77 degrees ( 34-45% fan speed, which sound like a vacuum cleener above 35%, but still love it) | | | | this should enable the r600 to really show more potential since it was ill fited as a 80nm | | | | Take a look at this ASUS Radeon HD 3870 512MB G-DDR4 :: TweakTown review of the HD3870. And you'll see it's hardly better than the HD2900XT, though it is cooler and quieter. Then tell me again that AMD isn't actually trying to be "Second Rate"! This is exactly what I said would happen when AMD bought ATI. ATI of old is gone! They will never compete with Nvidia again.
Why do I say these things? It's simple, AMD's main focus is processors and flash memory, and they'll never put the money into development for their graphics. Well let me rephrase that... They don't have the money to put into development, and at this rate they may never have it. That said I'm sure a few of you will still buy AMD products. All I can say is "good luck with that..." I suspect the next target of AMD's mediocrity machine is their driver support. Then again I guess none of you remember the Rage 128 days. | | | | Quote:

Your saying sh*t, we remember the Rage 128, AMD is not mediocrity (yeah the GF8XXX is more powerfull,so what ?it's also lot more expensive, etc etc,it has been said a 1000 times)
I can't stand that lack of respect..
I'll buy AMD product and I don't give a damn f*ck about your best wishes | | | | "DX10.1 is an incremental update that won’t affect any games or gamers in the near future."
CORRECTION: "DX10 is an incremental update that won’t affect any games or gamers in the near future."
There, fixed it for him! Down with DX10!
Funny benchmark (german) | | | | lol whats up with that benchmark | | | | Unixlord: you haven't played crysis right ?, because if you played it you won't be saying that ... | | | | Quote:

someone will hack it eventually | | | | Quote:

Seriously now! I hope some of you do buy some AMD/ATI products. I used to prefer them myself (both brands). But I'm NOT brand loyal and certainly not to Intel or Nvidia. It's just that at the moment Everything that AMD/ATI is offering second rate. The company knows it and that's why they dropped the price on their HD3800 series. The really sad part is that this is more of a "paper launch" for that product line. So few of the dealers have them at the low price that makes them a "value". And if you were to decide between an HD3870 and a 8800GT for the same price which would you buy?
Well, I'd guess you'd buy the HD3870, am I right? That's fine with me. Just don't expect me to show you any special "respect". Cause it ain't gonna happen. None of these companies deserve "respect" IMO. And while you're free to make your own choices, I'm also free not to agree with you. So grow up dude! | | | | Well I am still waiting for what the HD 3870 has in store for us I think we might be in for a pleasant surprise
On Vista SP1 well as I mentioned at the beginning of this year thats when I will be trying Vista and not before. Judas made me an offer if I was willing to try Vista Home I might just have to take him up on it | | | | Sounds good
Can he do me an offer too
Thanks anyway
And Cannyone...
I hope your girlfriend don't have the kind of judgement you have...
No respect..go for the bigger ones...
Anyway as you said everyone is free to make his own mind and have his own path
Bye | | | | newb, its not the size, its the skills you have
DUH.

Bye | Hey dude! Over to the left you can see the specs of my "Main Computer", but you don't see the specs of my Secondary computer. They are: Athlon 64 4600+ (Manchester Core), Asus A8R32-MVP (Radeon 3200 chipset), and X1900XT... So what you don't perceive is that I would really like to "upgrade" that system with AMD/ATI parts. It's just that AMD hasn't been making very good decisions from my point of view. And we'll see how things work out in the future.
Just to illustrate my feelings on the matter I'll say the following. If I had enough money so that it didn't matter at all. I'd buy a Phenom and a 790FX chipset board and at least a pair of HD3870s... Just based on the principle that I want to "support" AMD financially. Of course I'd also have a system with Nvidia and Intel parts as well. But that's not the point! The point is that I don't want to see AMD "go away". I just don't want to their stuff when it's not that good, and my money is less than over abundant. Call me "shallow" if you want. | | |
