Crysis Demo 'Very High' Settings Hack
Posted by Regeneration on October 29th, 2007, 06:57 PM

If you are stuck with a DirectX 9 GPU or you are too lazy to install Windows Vista, then here is a nice tweak for you. Apparently, you can enable some cool Crysis DirectX 10 features without having a DirectX 10 GPU, DirectX 10 or Windows Vista, all you have to do is to edit the configuration files inside Game\Config\CVarGroups. You have to modify all files and replace the Very High variables [4], with the high [3] variables. If you find it too hard, then I have done it for you, just download this file and extract it the CVarGroups directory and pick ‘High’ settings inside the game. Credit goes to LennyRhys for the great discovery.

I also posted this, http://www.ngohq.com/56579-post39.html 3 days ago ...

but, I'm gettin' to something fishy ... I'm not 110% sure but those modified setting will enable DX10 features, not DX9 ...
I look at some screens I made an compared to the screens taken by nv8xxx series users and they aren't the same visual effects

MS lied to us and Crytek has found a way to bring DX10 to XP

Now I'm afraid Crytek will try to lock the editable file so we can't do that again in the final game

Because that event is telling me that I definitely don't need vista

look at linkbacks great job guys keep up the good work

Completely murders my X1950Pro, though. High with medium objects and shadows is already a bit too intense.

they aren't DX10 effects, they are all Dx9 effects, they just are supposed to run better via Dx10.

as I stated above, the effects do not show exactly on my card as they're shown on 8xxx series cards
if they were DX9 effects they should

there is no actualy real reason why dx10 can only run on vista, them telling everyone that it can only work on vista is to force everyone to switch to vista so they can get your money, they propbably mayed these guys alot of money to disable thoes options in xp

the effects are slightly sharper in Dx10(Vista) but otherwise they are exactly the same between the 2, when setup properly.

When running the CPU/GPU benchmarks that were provided with the demo, I was getting an average of ~32 FPS with everything set to "High" in Windows XP.

After changing all the settings to reflect "Very High" the benchmarks both reported an average of ~25 FPS.

Note: I had both motion blur and depth of field turned off, probably would have dropped another frame or two from motion blur. (r_motionblur 0 / r_depthoffield 0)

You can also set some things even higher than "Very High"!

Check out this guys "ultimate tweak guide", it's extremely worth-while and explains things you'd otherwise be clueless about. Also includes screenshots and a list of colour-coded & defined console commands (not to mention how to unlock your in-game console :P).
