| | | RIAA Jury Finds Minnesota Woman Liable for Piracy | Jammie Thomas, a single mother of two, was found liable Thursday for copyright infringement in the nation's first file-sharing case to go before a jury. Twelve jurors here said the Minnesota woman must pay $9,250 for each of 24 shared songs that were the subject of the lawsuit, amounting to $222,000 in penalties. They could have dinged her for up to $3.6 million in damages, or awarded as little as $18,000. She was found liable for infringing songs from bands such as Journey, Green Day, Aerosmith and others.
After the verdict was read, Thomas and her attorney left the courthouse without comment. The jurors also declined to talk to reporters. The verdict, coming after two days of testimony and about five hours of deliberations, was a mixed victory for the RIAA, which has brought more than 20,000 lawsuits in the last four years as part of its zero-tolerance policy against pirating. The outcome is likely to embolden the RIAA, which began targeting individuals in lawsuits after concluding the legal system could not keep pace with the ever growing number of file-sharing sites and services. | | | | 18 Comments | | | Whoa! What what they do to someone with like 1000 pirated songs? Death sentence? | | | | I'd say: "Sorry, you're honor and respected juries, but all of you need to be hosptilized ASAP". $220,000 for what? sharing some MP3s? What next? death penalty? this is madness! (Not sparta). | | | | Did they at least buy her dinner or offer her some vaseline with that | | | | Quote:

(Not sparta). | Not Sparta, but America. | | | | *sings* 'only in america' | | | | thats bloody rediculous, they probably paid off the jury, what kind of self respecting people would find someone guilty of not doing anything wrong, the real criminals are groups like ria and record labels that charge $25 for a 5cent cd in a 5 cent case and dont pay the artist virtually anything from the record sales, its not theft because they havent lost anything, i really hope ol' karma catches up with them. |

| Quote | | | | | File sharing is the best thing too ever happen too the music industry.
It rekindled my interest in a uninteresting Australian market.
I buy cd`s and dvd-a because i`m into my sound quality.and lots of people like too
dload a track or two too see if you like the style of music before buying.
And thats harder than it sounds here, the music stores targeting 15yo`s
So finding a album by bela fleck or anyone i like is basically impossible .
I have too order and pay extra for them to be imported.usually 35$
yup i have bought music which i would otherwise never have heard!!!
and anyway i consider mp3 too be a poor quality digital representation of the original music ,fake ramped up bass
(my old tape deck was better for copying music)
lot of good formats out their mp3 isnt one |

| Quote | | | | | Thats the thing, theres so much crap out there that who in their right mind would go blow 25$ on a cd from someone theyve enver heard before that they randomly found in a music store, im very picky about my music and i dont have the money to blindly go buy albums just to throw them away after the second song.
As per mp3, it is actually an excelent format, you cant tell the difference between CBR 320 and FLAC (despite what the flac snobs say) they've actually done studies and people cant even tell the difference between a mp3 at CBR 192 and flac, its a great format, but thats not the point, if i really like something i find i typcialyl go out and buy it, but like i said who has the money to go blindly buy albums 90% of which are gonna end up being crap, you get to try a car before you buy it dont you? | | | | quote thingy ( you cant tell the difference between CBR 320 and FLAC )
it`s very noticeable too me
mainly in the bass (compressed)
it`s ok at lower levels of listening
but not when you truly crank it up!!!
too much bass lightly too destroy my original speakers all from 70`s
mp3 is meant for headphones and pc speakers that dont know the meaning of 20hz
and im not a snob
just lots of experiments here has lead me too my conclusions |

| Quote | | | | | thats just insane, im really upset, im not saying that i agree everyone should download mp3s, but come on.. that sentence is just too much and ridiculous. | | | | No digital format sounds good over a analog stareo, id never play mp3's over mine, but they sound great on my 240w 6.1 computer system with a surround mixer, get some amazing sound.
BTW im looking into ordering one of thoes amps for my home stereo, roughly how much did your's end up costing when it was all said and done? if you dont mind me asking. Quote:

I hope they burn in hell for how they destroy people's lives for absolutly nothing. |

| Quote | | | | | somewhere between 300$ too $700 be my guess thats aussie $$$ (considering they sound better than amps worth 10g well worth it)
price list SKA - Pricelist
also click on the diy gallery is some intresting builds
then you have too source your toroidal transformer(s)
heat sink(s) and have a few holes cut in some sheet metal (great support by members who have already done it too)
alot depends on the config of the amp
you can build mono blocks will cost more
or duel power supply`s for greater seperation of channels
is 2 main versions the 150w and the 300w
then you can build them in class A or A/B
mine are all A/b duel supply ,and is as close as you will get too pure A
according too a few real experts
you can have Greg built and test them before sending or if your competent at soldering and basic electronics
you can save money by doing all the build yourself |

agreed
and i`d argue the point that the dloaded music really sucked and was only for testing
take my audio equipment with me too prove the point, spectral analyzers and all
for the hard of hearing
if she resold it for profit i would not feel as strongly
but sharing has it`s good points
especially for those of us in musically retarded country`s |
