Nvidia to cut off AMD chipset support?
Posted by Regeneration on June 7th, 2007, 03:35 PM

According to rumors in Computex, Nvidia is planning to terminate chipset support for AMD processors. I’m talking about the entire nForce family for AMD. Currently this report is still a rumor, everyone denies it but as we all know, some rumors have a habit to become real.

I envision Intel and Nvidia teaming up and squashing DAMMIT in the not too distant future

The words that come to mind are ludicrous, unfounded and unrealistic. A (very) bad joke at most.

How dare they? That's absolutely pathetic. Down with Nvidia.

ati killed itself by merging with amd i always thought (and hoped ) that intel will buy ati

fuck that i got myself AM2 socket support that's enought for me, i will soon buy a x2 4200 and a hd2600 pro.. and that will be it nVidia can ...@^!%!%@# me

not so far from the truth ... AMD killed themeseves

mhm that would be extremely unwise from nvidia's side. They are getting a lot of profits off from their amd chipsets (all the integrated graphics and low cost market- low margins but huge sales numbers) and they will do at least 1 more series since the 7xxa is annouced for launch later this year (together with phenom cpus)

nForce chipsets suck anyway. My friend had an nForce5 chipset and had all sorts of problems with HDD's and RAID. First, he found out that that chipset hated WD drives, so he had to sell all his WD drives (which he had 5 or 6 of) and bought 6x500GB drives and intended to put them in RAID 5. Then he found out that the chipset has a RAID array size limit of 2TB. And Windoze XP doesn't do software RAID 5.

NO WAYS Ive got an Nforce 570 and we had alot of job to do ! Well nvidia chipsets was really good chipsets !

Whoever basically said that ts not as if the drivers are any good while it's SUPPORTED was damn right.

far as i known amd just resume thier chipset project after got ati but it need times, to cut off future chipset is a way to make troble but cant estimate the effect may be to grahpic chips R&D or else

NF6 AMD series has developed for long time enough to be ready for selling but still no present even in computech

if they not it must at least 1 are shown ...
yeah amd chipset not go far as nv yet , this is real hurt

Well, its hardly surprising news, after AMD took over ATI it really was only a matter of time.

It's interesting how people believe such things. Nvidia will still have AMD-oriented chipsets and, at least until Q2 2008, they will keep on releasing new products like the MCP72 series consisting of the MCP72XE/P, MCP72 Ultra and MCP72V chipsets.

like if they had the only chipsets out there for amd

Well dude it's just rumors dude So you can trust it or you can deny it

Rumors that go against general truth are pure and simple lies. The idea of Nvidia dropping its AMD-supporting chipsets can be discussed but that will certainly not happen in the following 3 quarters which is a reasonable time frame.

And I don't have to deny it, immediate reality does that with no problem. One year from today the situation may be different but today, there is nothing to sustain the 'rumor'.

Well take it day per day and we will see if this rumor are true
Well since the Nforce 4 chipsets nvidia make good chipsetsFor Amd i think

nForce2 was the shiznit and nForce4 was only narrowly beaten by RD580 (even that's a matter of opinion, but my OC jumped over 100mhz by switching from an Abit KN8-SLI to the Asus A8R32-MVP). I know nForce3 sucked but since I'm not transitioning to AM2+ until Barcelona I can't vouch for nForce5 or higher.

Still, as much as I hate nVidia they do make excellent chipsets and I would hate to lose that alternative when new sockets come out. However, money is the only reason they will keep it up or not. If it is profitable to make AMD chipsets they'll keep doing it, plain and simple, unless in the event of the unholy union (Intel+nVidia) they would have to stop to avoid conflicts of interest.

In a nutshell: Whatever.

thats because your friend is an idiot and doesn't realise that WD drives suck in the first place.

also, didn't he realise he could just get the firmware update for the drive and fix the issue easily?

The last post hare is sooo off-topic....

AMD and NVIDIA have already announced awhile back that nvidia has a chipset in R&D for the Phenom FX's
