Symantec Anti-Virus Kills Windows XP Chinese Edition
Posted by Regeneration on May 20th, 2007, 01:21 AM

A signature update to Symantec's anti-virus software crippled thousands of Chinese PCs Friday when the security software took two critical Windows .dll files for malware. According to numerous blog entries from Chinese computer users, a virus signature database seeded yesterday mistook two system files of a Chinese edition of Windows XP SP2 as a Trojan horse which Symantec dubs "Backdoor.Haxdoor".

I may not be using a Chinese edition of windows but it just makes me happy that i`ve stopped using Symantec`s antivirus software a long time ago. It`s bloated, slow and annoys you asking for confirmation twice about every little shitty thing you do.

I'm using Symantec Norton Internet Security 2007, and its pretty damn good i find. A lot better than the 2006 versions takes less resourses and doesn't warn about useless things.

Micro-Trend is the best AV, but I'm not using any AV anymore. Just bloated and annoying, and I'm not downloading crap files anyway.

I stoped using Symantec after one thing that happen to me . I tryed to uninstall it , and when its finished , it deleted like half of my XP folder , i needed to wipe this hdd clean (it was system only partition ) , cos first time when i installed on top of the old instalation , i still have some issues from the symantec , dont remember what it was at this moment. So i just formated the damn thing .

Haha, finally some bad comments of Symantec. I've hated their products since 2004 and been using free av software instead of Norton. God it's crap! I mean, it's a resource hog, fucks up your comp, the automatic update stopped working and whatnot. Only proggie worse than Norton is F-secure! Don't make the mistake of buying/installing it.

I got AVG now and it runs like a dream, updates every day and there hasn't been any viruses at all.

There's this really annoying virus/Trojan that spreads by attaching itself to flash disks and other portable media while hiding its files from windows. I just pop the stick into my Linux laptop and erase the damn thing. If people would stop using outdated mcafee this thing wouldn't be lurking all over the place.
