S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shader Mod
Posted by Regeneration on April 25th, 2007, 11:23 PM

The Float32 modification for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernoby has been released this morning, which beefs up the already impressive graphics in GSC Game World's first-person shooter. This mod adds full reflection vector calculations, better bump mapping, real specular effects! All this detail improvement costs nothing in framerate and you will get 20% better framerate than before if not more! Shadows are soft and no longer jagged and the overall graphical quality has been vastly improved.

Note to ATI Users from the author:
There is an error within the shadows. GSC screwed up and did not support hardware shadows with ati hardware. I removed the software shadows from the script to clean it up since nobody who is using full dynamic should be using software shadow. Well, this broke ATI support and I forgot to fix it. So when you install the shaders, delete "shadow.h" and you should be fine. If you have the entire game extracted, then replace "shadow.h" with the stock one after installing my shaders.

Can't get it to work followed instructions all that happen is a bunch of code running on the left hand side of the screen.

I talked to jjwalker at mirc, server 'irc.arstechnica.com', channel #arsificial (it's on the 'readme' file) - for me, the issue was the user.ltx file, and it's solved. You can run STALKER with dynamic lighting? So, get this mod. That's the first time I saw weather changing, and believe me, it changes dramatically your perception of how good this game is - or could be.

IMPORTANT FOR ATI USERS!

There is an error within the shadows. GSC screwed up and did not support hardware shadows with ati hardware. I am working on a fix for you ATI folks to enjoy hardware shadows! Expect it within the next few days

Hey, with the new update 1.0003 that was released, is this still needed? Does it still work?

I don't want to try, cuz, I don't want to mess up my game !

Is there a new version that was released?
