Default Gigabyte P965-DS3 Motherboard and Vista Problems

I have been having problems with my Gigabyte P965-DS3 motherboard and Vista installing. I just bought a new motherboard and 500W Enermax power supply to go with my E6400 core 2 duo. I have been trying to install Windows Vista, which worked fine for me before. But anyways, I get all the way through the install, to right before I would set up my username and password on first boot, and the green bar freezes every time on the windows loading screen. I've tried formatting again a couple of times, but the same thing happens. I have revision 3.3 of this motherboard. From what I've found online, this problem could have something to do with SATA RAID drivers. I have tried updating my bios, switching out memory, using different hard drives, and updating my LAN drivers like a forum suggested. Nothing so far has helped. Any solutions or ideas?

This one should work:

Quote:
1. Install Vista on a single Serial ATA drive (p.e. on secondary gigabyte controller)

2. install last ICH8R driver (all is working fine and vista can read and write form raid hard disk on intel controller)

3. make an image of the SATA hard disk with norton gost (only partition or full disk depending on the case) and write it on the partition of the raid system.

4. Now you can boot from raid controller!!!
Or you can try to put your latest RAID drivers on some USB drive/CDRW and load it in the Vista Partition screen.

What you suggested would require me to actually get Vista installed. I've tried the purple sata ports ( the secondary controller you spoke of) and the regular ICHR8 ports. All of which exibit the same behavior.

I would like to note I've done the eep.bat update, which solved nothing.

I believe I've tried just about every combination of driver to load during the install, though I'm sure there are a few I'm forgetting. There might be a bios setting/driver combo that will do the trick. I might try installing XP (which works) then upgrading from that, though I dunno what that would solve.

This is so frustrating, I've never had an issue where an OS would not install properly. I appreciate your insight and help!

Try to install Vista with the purple SATA ports but make sure to disable the other SATA controller from the BIOS, and the LAN as well.

Update:
It seems that something is wrong with JMicron SATA driver (jgogo.sys) and Vista, I'm looking for some way to get rid of it.

I sent you the latest JMicron drivers for Vista, you should try it as well.

Ok, so I tried those Jmicron drivers you sent - still no luck. I formatted again, same exact problem. Is there a way that I can disable the Intel southbridge SATA without disabling the Jmicron?

Well.. only if it appears in the BIOS. If you can't see it, then you should wait for some hotfix, or get some 3rd party SATA2 RAID PCI Controller instead. But if you 'must' solve it, then you probably have some option to disable/enable JMicron and Intel SATA ports. Can you hook me up with some pictures of your SATA BIOS options screen?

that's strange

I'm using a 965P-DS4 motherboard (the same ICH8R ad JMicron controlers)
I even use Raid stripe on the ICH8R but, I don't have isues with installing Vista

Default Vista install hangs on little green bars

As far as I can tell Trixie21, I have the same problem... I have the DS4 (revision 3.3) and it just hangs on the last part of the Vista install.

I have tried different:
  • Hard drives
  • Power supplies
  • SATA ports
I've tried upgrading the firmware as it says on the Gigabyte site, under FAQ's.

I've run the RAM tester on the Vista DVD and it was all clear.

Still no love.

Lots of people are having problems with RAID, installing Vista on the DS4 with a Core2 Duo but I just have one hard drive.

I need help installing Vista on a single SATA HDD with the DS4 motherboard, 2gigs of A-DATA RAM and the E6600 CPU.

If i could get a vista image I would but I can't get off the ground with this thing!!!

Try changing your motherboards instead. Try something like the ASUS P5B series.
