Well, I did some more tests and it seem that it still lags. However it is much improved, but it still annoys me. I will either buy two SATA Optical drives or maybe i will just buy a PCI IDE Controller. Like I said, i don't give a damn for games taking a long time to install, but i hate even the slightest gliches in DVD movies (although i don't get 10 fps like before). Thanks anyways kirill, your help was appriciated

Default JMicron drivers

There is a v 1.09 of the JMicron drivers about (DriverVer=05/12/2006, 1.09.04.00) the usual ones shipped with the MB are v1.00.
I chased these down as i had a problem of a IDE DVD burner that kept vanishing during use as if it unmounted itself somehow, these drivers cured this problem.

I attached the ones i now use.

Well it still hasn't fix my problem but thanks anyways. Don't bother anymore guys, I think this one is a hopeless case. I will just buy two plextor SATA drives or an PCI Ide Card with a better controler on it.

I wish you good luck as after watching two friends going through hell & back with SATA opticals i decied to stay away from them. They found from no drive showed up at all in the system too this is a ROM only drive when it was a burner.

When one of them actually got one to showup as a burner and tryed burning a DVD it took 38 mins on a 16x DVD -R as burnproof kept kicking in because for whatever reason the 2MB buffer on drive was not being filled enough buy the SATA interface. The MB's in question were Gigabyte and Asus they had all these issues with, lets hope you have better luck.

I know it may sound stupid, but are you using a 40-pin or 80-pin cable?

UDMA66 or UDMA100 will not be used UNLESS:
a) The drive(s) in question support UDMA
b) The mobo in question support UDMA
c) The cables in question support UDMA

Alot of mobo manufacturers only ship 1 cable in the box, it does support UDMA100 (which in turn has a blue end on it). The other cable usually needs to be picked up somewhere else (good thing they are cheap ). It could be that some pc reseller ripped you off with a shitty cable.

It could also be that the company that mfg'd your computer threw in the shitty cable to save money. They don't care about performance, just that you call for support, and use them to 'fix' your machine.

That would explain why it works with 1 drive, and not with the other drive. Not enough throughput on the cable?

Well I use an aftermarket rounded UV Cable. I don't really know what it supports, but I kept the cable that came with the mobo. Both mine and this one have a blue end. And even though im a total newbie and this sounds a bit paranoid, i will count the pins on the cables.

If they are aftermarket rounded ide cables, they are likely quality ATA100 (UDMA100) cables.

The easiest way to check would be the 'thickness' of the cable. Though, I've been working on computers for well over 10 years now. An 80 pin cable looks almost flat because the pins are so close together, where a 40 pin cable has more obvious ridging between the cables. Plus a 40 pin cable has a standard black/grey end on all 2/3 connectors, where a 80 pin cable has blue, red, or yellow ends.

I would then continue to look at the drivers and windows itself. There are other things in the device manager you could check to ensure that UDMA33 or UDMA66 was enabled on your primary and secondary ports.

One quick check would be here:
+ Control Panel
+ System
+ Hardware (if applicable)
+ Device Manager
+ IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers
+ <name> Controller
+ Primary / Secondary Channel

Ensure that DMA is selected and enabled if available. Also make sure you don't have any bangs or questions. Curious, what is the controller that you have listed there? We can check for even newer drivers for it...

P.S. Kirill, you're not helping ! *LOL*
