Okay news flash, as long as you have the battery in, the cmos has power for the memory to hold it's settings. Hence, this is why you pull the battery, then move the jumper wait 60 to 90 seconds, move the jumper back, and then replace battery and reboot your machine and set your bios up.

actually you can just switch off at the back and pull the battery, then hit the power button.

same effect as the jumper.

easy no?
if you say so but when you remove battery for longer time you will complitly delete(erase) bios and pc will not start ever

i hade a little error with it
i have removed battery from my older mbo (was changing a battery becouse this one was too old)
dont know how but bios on mbo have been erased LOL
i cant run it any more

p.s. battery on mbo is there becouse bios not for restarting bios but is there for saving data on it. if mbo is not conected on psu battery carge bios some time (around 1-2 years) and then drop ded (bios goes with it)
if you dont trust me test it on older mbo (just remove battery and wait for some time and then try to start mbo)

dude ... I'll bet you 1000$ (USD)

did you ever think that the mobo in question was defective?
the CMOS area that holds the actual BIOS cannot be erased, only in special situations
the area that holds the settings is volatile and will be lost if power is not applied for a period of time

there are some CMOS-es that will not reset the data unless the jumper thingy is used

Resetting the bios requires the battery be in the motherboard, does it not?
