I've got another issue....or so it seems anyway....with this motherboard/system:

I've installed Windows 7 RC x64 from the downloaded ISO file.... TWICE now. I've used the cd-key that was provided for x64 installations.

But, I discovered that I'm getting the x86 version! What gives?

I'm using the same disc I created when RC first was released and even downloaded a new one in the last hour. But, when attempting to install, it pops up a warning saying that my system is not compatible with the version I'm attempting to install.

If I had hair, I'd be pulling it out by now.

You booted from the x64 disk and did a full format? How do you know it's not the x64 version? Run dxdiag. Also, look here.

Yes and, both the System Diagnostics AND Dxdiag show it as a 32-bit system. Really, really getting flusterated with this new board.

But how can a 32 bit OS get installed from a 64 bit source?

This is extremely confusing.

Just to be sure, the name of x64 7 is this

7100.0.090421-1700_x64fre_client_en-us_retail_ultimate-grc1culxfrer_en_dvd.iso

If you have the image, you could try checking the MD5 checksum (maybe something got messed up, I don't know). Just extract the zip into the dir where the image is and run the batch script.

I don't know what to tell ya'. You could maybe try with the old board and see what's happening on that front (that is, if you have a few days to spare).

Yes, that is the full name of the ISO image I downloaded. Once burned to the DVD, the disk name comes up beginning with GRC1........

I'm backing up data at present and plan to do this from scratch again tomorrow night. Something's really fishy.

Downloaded the zip if you want to remove it from your post above. Thanks!

OK...so, I redownloaded the W7 RC x64 file from Microsoft and burned the image to a DVD.

This one has finally installed the x64 system. I'm still stumped as to just how the x86 system got installed because I had used the same DVD I used previously.

Anyway, I'm back to x64 now and we'll see how well it goes from here.

lol, this pertains to some "believe it or not" series.

I reckon it was some weird bug. It's only an RC, after all. I remember once I installed the 7000 build and, get this, there was only one user account and that one DID NOT have administrative privileges. I went into safe mode and fekked around a bit around the use accounts and managed to open an administrator account.
