Just FWIW, thi link below is the board I have and it's been rock solid! It's also the first MSI board I've ever owned. I know ASUS is very popular, but, the only board I've had trouble with in the past nearly ten years was an ASUS board.

There's even a little cheaper version of this board a few slots down on that website.

I have my E6700, which defaults to 2.67 GHz running very easily at 3.2 GHz. Also, FWIW, MSI has been very good at updating mobo drivers and BIOS.

hmmm 780GX is upcoming chipset but i dont think they will call it like that (but maybe they will dont know)
i would recomend 780 chipset and gigabyte mbo LOL

That's a good solid board as long as you're not a serious overclocker (which could be attributed to the immature bios).
If you're willing to pay $10 more you can get this (p45) which is significantly better. The price/performance on this board is amazing.

that mobo looks quite decent dyre, ive had my old msi board for the past 4 years and it has served me quite well, that board doesnt support crossfire though does it? That would be the only advantage to that asus board i posted

Get my gigabyte suggesion over the MSI board. It's a capable overclocker and it supports faster ram.
If you wanted the best crossfire support you'd have to be looking at the current X48 offerings.

I was looking at that gigabyte board too, it looks like it might be my best option because i tend to OC, especially to extend my systems life for a year or two before having to upgrade

Before you decide, you should also research what other components you will be using and read as many reviews/customer reviews you can about it.

well probably just the q6600, probably a 4850 to start with and some ddr2 1066, probably the crucial dominator series and probably just like a 500gig wd caviar or some other not too expensive hdd, shouldnt be any problems
