#1 | | Golden Member | | RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2 | | Help-XFX 780i Hangs Hi all, some help needed here please, I have just upgraded my mobo to XFX 780i with a Q6600 GO stepping (just finished installing yesterday)
I have made sure the BIOS was updated to P05 using the ESA system monitor 6.01
with system update and the downloaded BIN file - message reads "bios update successful" so that should be ok. - Fresh install of Vista 64 also of course - I know there are some issues with GO stepping processors and earlier BIOS so I hope after updating BIOS to P05 and getting the "successful" message these should have been resolved.
However there seems to be something slowing my system down or using resources:
Its really weird, every 10-20 seconds the system hangs briefly for just 1 or 2 seconds then resumes like normal.
- Other than that there are no problems, everything else seems fine. The only things installed on the system are Vista updates, Nvidia software, and antivirus - no other programs. I have tried uninstalling the antivirus and the nvidia software but the problem still seems to be there.
This is a really annoying problem and I can't figure it out whats causing it -
i.e On my desktop if I simply move my mouse cursor from the left of the screen to right it pauses/hangs briefly for 1 second and then has to catch up like something is using up the system resources, but I have checked task manager and I can't see anything that could be using up huge resources. I am just on the desktop with a quad core processor - it should not be hanging at all!!
any ideas please??? -thanks!

| Did it hang before you installed to vista updates?

the weird thing is that I uninstalled both a-v and nvidia software but the problem still seemed to be there.
Anyone else experience this problem before? Someone must have..

Is there any media in the DVD/CD drive?
Does the HDD Activity light flicker at this time?
How is the System RAM configured?

Thanks for the feedback btw

#7 | | Golden Member | | RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2 | | ok I have checked and the problem does still seem to be occuring in safe mode.
There are no disks in the drives but I have noticed that the Hard Drive "Busy" LED does seem to be flashing at the same time the system seems to hang - but i can't be 100% sure that the two are related!
I also installed a new 500gb maxtor drive at the same time I installed my new mobo -could this be causing the problem?
I installed the new mobo + new Hard drive then as soon as everything was installed I booted straight from the Vista disk (I didn't format the new hard drive or do anything to it, just plugged the cables and then booted from CD ROM - was i supposed to format it first? Vista just installed automatically and didnt give me the option to format my drive first or do anything to it?...

#9 | | Golden Member | | RAM: 4096 Corsair 800 XMS2 | | I've got a sneaking feeling its not the hard drive, I don't know why and I could be completely wrong but I can always come back to that later. I'm going to flash the BIOS with a different version and see if that makes any difference...
