Default Advice on new mobo/chipset upgrade

Heya peeps, need some advice as for some time now i have been considering upgrading my mobo + processor - I am not ready to do so quite yet but am just "planning ahead".

I have decided not to waste time/money upgrading my cpu to phenom and sometime in the near future I am considering buying a 775 striker extreme mobo with a Q6600 as both now retail together for around the £300 mark.

I have never installed a mobo or cpu before so i do need to know a few things, such as: will i be able to simply remove all connectors to my present mobo (e.g sata, power etc) unscrew & remove the board and then screw the new one in and connect cables before installing cpu + bios etc - is it as simple as that?

what i mean to say is I am worried about all my data on HDD and having to do new install of windows?.....

V-sync, with this loss data on hdd is your joke, right?

I'm hope so, if not... If not so i can tell u only that u won't lost any data on your hdd.

Do u use oem windows?

And the last one: installation of mobo is easy, everythin is always described in mobo's manual.

On the mobo see it uses DDR2 which is good until prices come down DDR3 really doesn't perform much better. The Q6600 has been a solid CPU a lot of people are using it.

On changing those 2 components as long as your case is fairly standard should just be a matter of swapping everything over. However you will have to back up your HD(s) and reinstall your OS for the new mobo or you will lose that data !!

Quick post here if I think of anything else will add it hope this helps

well u need to make new instalation of windows hmmm
about removing it is just simple
all mbos have almost same holes so you only need to replace mbo (but first put cpu on its socket)
and about mbo why a asus ??? take a look >>> http://www.gigabyte.eu/Products/Moth...ProductID=2553

Great, that was what i wanted to know.

I knew it was very unlikely that i would lose any data but because i have never installed a mobo + cpu before i didnt know if doing either of these two things would affect my data or my OS - e.g installing new BIOS for new CPU

So the answer is "yes" it is relatively simple and straightforward then - just unplug everything old, and then plug everything new in...right?

No you will lose the data on your HD back it up and reformat fresh when you add the new components ...

The boot sector will be different if you dont back up or are replacing the mobo / cpu with the exact same models it won't read the HD.

Back up and then reinstall OS ...
