hmmmm you can back up your system with tools like norton ghost
dont know will it work from amd to intel but you need to uninstall all drivers before that
well you can try that or to borrow someones disk (empty ) so you can save data on it

thnx -hmm maybe its just easier if i just "sacrifice" all unimportant data & just make a backup of anything really important, then i will just do a clean new installation of windows?

this is probably the easiest way for someone inexperienced like me...

-whoaa Gen that mobo looks really cool maybe i will get it instead actually ( i like 3 pci express!) but this is still not going to happen yet maybe even until Q3/Q4 2008..

There will be better options in Q3 and most certainly in Q4 of 2008 for both AMD and Intel upgrades.

you'll surely need to reinstall windows... so backup all data u might need thats on your windows partition.

puttung a new mobo in place is really simple as the others said. after you've removed the old one.. put the cpu with its cooler (the thermal paste is already aplied on it) on the new one and after that its time to put it where it belongs than the power connectors and all that stuff and it should be fine.

The Q6600 is a really nice choice and as far as i know same for the asus striker

If you care about your cpu you would do well to clean off the pre-applied crap with articlean and apply something worthy such as ac-mx2 or as5.

its not really crap anymore.. it will do for the most of the users. i normally dont like the standart thermal paste either.. but l,eft it on my ac freezer pro 7 and my q6600 reaches 42°C when i do prime 95

I was referring to the stock heatsink not an aftermarket cooler . If ac is pre-applying something similar to their own mx2/mx1 then it's fine.

What Gen mentioned will work fine I find I usually pick and chose and back that up to a spare drive. Been thinking of picking up a USB drive actually by the time I re-install OS I have a bunch of crap I find I never use lol

I would wait a little longer and get a steeping B3 fixed phenom instead of changing the motherboard and the CPU.
