PSU: Antec SP 2.0 500watt
Default Got another MOBO need help..

I took the last one back and got my money back,, Man those guys really ripped me off...

Well anyway i got a new one built ,, just have one problem..

MSI K9VGM-V
Via K8M890 chipset based
AMD Athlon 64 Athlon X2

It came with a EVGA e-GeForce 8400 GS 256mb DDR2 PCI-E

Ok heres the problem i have a X-Fi audio card and when i put my ati x1300 video card in its take up all the bandwith and the sound card really sounds garbled or doesnt work at all..
After doing a little research i found out that the VIA chip doesnt run PCI's very well its letting the video card take all the bandwidth and leaving none for the audio card..

Is there a fix for this, already tried the via chip patch and that didnt work...

So you changed your PCIE viddy card that shouldn't affect your audio card is it on PCI or other ? (PCIE x 2 etc)

Make sure on board audio is disabled and your VIA drivers are up to date(wasn't sure if that meant patches as you posted)

if there is a BIOS option called PCI Latency Timer change it to 64 or higher

There is a Latency Clock and Latency Timer the timer is set for 64..
Should i set it for 128?

The only onboard setting that is on is my Lan connector..

As i understand it the VIA chip cant tell which should get more latency the video or the audio so it defaults to video,, which leaves the audio out to dry. so to speak..
There is a third party patch that is supposed to fix that issue, but it didnt work on my system...

yes, try it for 128 ... VIA chipsets and Creative hardware don't go very well together

Dang I will keep my eyes open for a patch will let you know if I find anything .... hope zme's setting works for you

(Have you checked your mobo manufacturer site I know ASrock on this mobo had a pile of patches and fixes for ATI cards might be worth a shot .. my chipset is VIA as well)

Ok i went to the MSI site and there they have a automatic updater that updated my VIA chipset and it also had a agp latency updater,, tried it and it said it didnt work, but my computer restarts faster now..
Then i installed my x1300 card and still the same sound problem,, so i went into my bios and set the latency timer to 128 and that fixed for now...

Thanks for helping me....
