Default Upgrading a Motherboard without Reinstalling

Hi, Gang

Just wanted to tell you about my experience of installing a new motherboard and processor.

I purchased an AsRock 775i65g motherboard and a Dual Core Intel Pentium D 3.4GHz
processor. My old board was a Foxxcon with an AMD4200+ 64.

I was really worried that i would have to reinstall my WindowsXP proffessional OS with
SP1 and SP2 along with all updates and end up losing all of my stuff on the main hard drive. Before doing anything with the new motherboard and processor, i thought that i would look around for a solution to prevent me having to do a clean install of the OS.

Whilst searching on google i came across this site and an article titled:

Upgrading a Motherboard without Reinstalling

On first reading the article i thought that it sounded really difficult, but how wrong i was. After
deciding to give it a try, i printed out the article and reread it several times. Then i took the
plunge and said to myself the worst that can happen is that i will have to do a clean reinstall
if things go wrong.

I followed the printed article to the letter and after a couple of hours, i had my new
system up and running with no loss of data or anything going wrong. All my programs
along with their shortcuts etc worked perfectly. Even my internet connection, router, emails
etc were all fantastically ok. I just wish i had taken the plunge sooner, instead of dilly
dallying for over a week after finding the article.

Thanks must certainly go to the article writer Regeneration for giving me the smoothest
motherboard and processor change ever.

Oh! nearly forgot to mention that i did not even have to go through the dreaded re-registering
with Microsoft, that i have had to do before.

Vinnie
