Today we took a look into the NVIDIA ForceWare 81.40 which has been
leaked by The French website, Station Drivers. I’ve opened the
setup information file (NVDISP.INF) and noticed a lot of new Hardware
DeviceID entries. GeForce 7800 Ultra? | NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0090.1 = "NVIDIA G70" | NVIDIA_NV40.DEV_0040.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 Ultra" | | NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0091.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GTX" | NVIDIA_NV40.DEV_0041.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 6800" | | NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0092.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT" | NVIDIA_NV40.DEV_0043.1 = "NVIDIA NV40" | | NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0093.1 = "NVIDIA G70 " | NVIDIA_NV40.DEV_0045.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 GT" | | NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0094.1 = "NVIDIA G70 " | NVIDIA_NV40.DEV_0048.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 6800 XT" | | NVIDIA_G70.DEV_009D.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500" | NVIDIA_NV40.DEV_004E.1 = "NVIDIA Quadro FX 4000" |
NVIDIA already said there won’t be Ultra version of the 7800
series. For some reason I don’t really believe them. I did some
research and spoke to a lot of people regarding this matter and if I
were NVIDIA, I would wait until ATI releases their R520 series and then
I would release a monster card to deal with the X1800 XT. In the
DeviceID above, you can see the order of the cards. You can see
unrevealed entry above the 7800GTX. According to my sources, I have
strong reasons to believe that it would be the GeForce 7800 Ultra. If
it smells like cheese, and looks like cheese, Then.. It’s cheese.
I assume the release date would be between 1-3 months after ATI
releases their X1800 series. If you actually think about it, it makes
sense because NVIDIA has seemed to have learned from their past
mistakes; look at the GeForce 6 series for example.
The competition between ATI and NVIDIA is like a race. When you see
your opponents sprint, you have to do the same to keep the distance. I
would be very surprised if NVIDIA would really give up the 7800 Ultra. G72 | NVIDIA_G72.DEV_01D0.1 = "NVIDIA G72" | | NVIDIA_G72.DEV_01D1.1 = "NVIDIA G72 " | | NVIDIA_G72.DEV_01D2.1 = "NVIDIA G72 " | | NVIDIA_G72.DEV_01D3.1 = "NVIDIA G72 " | | NVIDIA_G72.DEV_01D5.1 = "NVIDIA G72 " | | NVIDIA_G72.DEV_01DF.1 = "NVIDIA G72 " |
We assume that G72 is a medium range solution. Our guess it would be
the GeForce 7600 series. NVIDIA made a lot of sales thanks to the 6600
series, and let’s admit it the 6600GT is a very popular cards
among the mid range users. The reason is the decent performance and the
excellent price. NVIDIA will require a new entry in this area,
especially with ATI providing an honest threat with their new medium
range cards. C51 | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0240.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 6150" | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0241.1 = "NVIDIA C51" | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0242.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 6100" | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0243.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0246.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0247.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0248.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_0249.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_024A.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_024B.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_024C.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_024D.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_024E.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " | NVIDIA_C51.DEV_024F.1 = "NVIDIA C51 " |
It seems NVIDIA has more plans for the integrated GPU chipset. There
are 11 new C51 entries compared to the older builds of ForceWare.
It’s really good to see, NVIDIA push onward in all directions. NV44 | NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_016A.1 = "NVIDIA NV44" | | NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_016B.1 = "NVIDIA NV44 " | | NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_016E.1 = "NVIDIA NV44GL" | | NVIDIA_NV44.DEV_0220.1 = "NVIDIA NV44 " |
NV44 will be like the 6200 series to compete in the low end market.
According to the Inquirer, it will support SM 3.0 and the price label
would be around 100$. NVIDIA Control Panel
The latest leaks of ForceWare also reveal a new Control Panel. I
couldn’t find any hot new features in it. It seems like
it’s in the beta stage and a lot of work is required to finish
this new project. Always good to see software improvement. They should
add some change log among their beta drivers as well. Too many driver
leaks recently. Reviewers shouldn’t leak drivers. | | | |
