for the longest time my computer was great. i had a constant 100fps for cs1.6 even on great quality. but now i cant seem to get 70 in battles anymore. dont tell me its spyware or a virus because i reformatted over a dozen times. here are the specs on my comp

P4 2.4 800fsb
512 pc3200
Radeon 9800 pro

i mainly get fps drops when i see other people in my field of vision, not necessairly battles but can get worse there. my comp is good enough to get 100fps in a 20+person dm server cause ive seen it before. my fps also does a huge drop when i record a demo.

anyone have any idea how i can fix this?

Dude I am looking at the same issue in TFC (same as CS1.6 - a HL1 MOD).

My x800xtpe basically proforms the same as a 9800pro.

I still get drops from 100fps in 8 or more people dming. TFC is alot more spammy then CS, so drops have ALWAYS occured, but I was hoping that my x800 would atleast play better then a 9800.

With your 9800, the best drivers are the ones out now with the Older OpenGL (NGOs that is, 2.4? . you still wont get 100fps ALL the time though. Small drops.

This appears to be an issue that many people are facing. I believe that there was a steam update about 3 weeks ago... That seems to be the stem of the problem...

I am checking with a few friends of mine to see if that update may be the cause of the problem.

I will check back in on this thread in the next day or two.

If it's just with cs1.6 then i can't help you but try vacooming ur processors fan, it can gather a lot of dust and can decrease your perfomance.
(I had fps probs with every game until I did that.)
