Hypermemory: What it is

First, let's make sure we understand what 'hypermemory' is. It's ATI's way of utlilizing System RAM in a way that enables the graphics card to share and use System RAM in addition to the VRAM.

In almost all cases today, utilizing this feature actually causes the video card to perform SLOWER...not faster. This is because many systems are using DDR RAM that's slower than the VRAM on the video card.

Another consideration is that using H/M reserves that portion of the System RAM for the graphics card and, thereby, reduces the overall amount of RAM for system uses.

It's a matter of using great discretion as to whether one really wants to enable Hypermemory due to these factors.

The most common use is for Mobility graphics adapters that are used in laptops/notebooks. In these cases, the onboard video adapter doesn't have its own VRAM and therefore, HAS to make use of System RAM to perform at all.

A much more indepth article can be found here:

http://www.beyond3d.com/interviews/a...index.php?p=02

To utilize H/M, one has to set it up in the BIOS and establish how much system RAM will be assigned to the graphics adapter. The limit will be established by the amount of System RAM installed and the limitations of the Motherboard BIOS.

Feel free to add to or ask any other questions. We're here to help.

Is it HyperMemory you're trying to enable or is it Overclocking the Video Card that you're trying to do?

We need to be sure of what your intention is.

For a full report of your system specifications, download Belarc Advisor here:

http://belarc.com/free_download.html

It's free. Once it produces a report of your system, you can use the File/Save As to save the report as a HTML document. Upload that using the attachment feature.

But, make sure it's HyperMemory and not Overclocking we're helping you with.

Cheers!

i think to no, how hypermemory works. and it is for me not interesting. i have a x600 pci card whit 256 mb. it has notting to do whit overclokking, there are a lot of tools for. i thought it can improve the videocard, bud the memory is enough. b.t.w i can play oblivion whitout any problem, so there is
actualy no hurry to chance anything.
