No, you are not the only one with this problem. I have a very similar (or even identical) problem.

My operating system is Windows 2003 with 3 personal user accounts. I don't use any screensavers, but I log out and log into the system regularly - the computer runs 24 hours a day. The annoying issue is like yours: every time (literally: EVERY TIME) I log into the system, I need to log twice. After the first attempt the login screen disappears and the welcome sound plays, but I am immediatelly moved back to the login screen. The second attempt is always successful.

Here are similarities I find in our cases:
- the operating system: Windows 2003 is almost identical with XP,
- I installed new ATI drivers recently; I don't remember which version it was before, I could check it out at home,
- I installed and uninstalled .NET Framework 2.0 recently.

Anyway, I have no idea how to get rid of that problem.

Michal

Thank you for posting about your similar/identical problem. This is something we'll keep an eye out for a solution.

Welcome to NGOHQ!

Hi folks

No real answers to this issue yet but I am fairly certain the event listed beow that appears in my Event Viewer under Applications is whats causing the problem.

It seems whenever the jump back occurs this log is shown as 2 seperate entries:

Event Type: Error
Event Source: EventSystem

Event Category: (50)

Event ID: 4614

Date: 08/12/2006

Time: 20:01:39

User: N/A

Computer: "Computer Name"
Description:
The COM+ Event System detected an inconsistency in its internal state. The assertion "GetLastError() == 122L" failed at line 201 of d:\qxp_slp\com\com1x\src\events\shared\sectools.cp p. Please contact Microsoft Product Support Services to report this error.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The microsoft link shows nothing useful.

Been on the web & although I can find others reporting this log together with the same issue as me no one has any answers.

Any ideas?

Cheers

I still feel this in your registry reading above ...

Try this free DL of jv16 powertools. As far as I am concerned it is the best reg cleaner/editor on the market. Top DL with manual and note this is a 30 day free trial

Good luck and feedback mate

Hi

Thanks for the JV16 link Mac D - looks like a powerful piece of kit - ran the Registry Cleaner & came up with 300+ issues - selected to fix em all. But unfortunatley the login issue is still with me!

Guess whatever it is must really like my pc as it doesent want to leave it! lol.

Anymore thoughts on the Event D 4614 - I mentioned earlier - that shows up twice everytime I get a jump back - its as iff a program is failing when I try to login & this is the report shoiwing it - I have stopped everything loading on startup except Norton & an annoying item called ctfmon.exe which I switch off in msconfig but it just returns next boot up.

I understand this is something to do with Microsoft Office which is v hard to disable.

I'm still very much open to any suggestions?

Cheers

I came across this thread via google too. I started experiencing this issue after i formatted and reinstalled windows xp sp2. I have no idea what is causing this but it's rather annoying. The only thing that i have done different was install IE7 after i formatted. Other than that everything is basically the same (Same driver versions etc)
