Download CCleaner. www.ccleaner.com

Run the Issues option to cleanup the Registry.

Hello again

Right - Backed up the Registry & created a Restore Point

Uninstalled the old drivers & cleared out as per ATI instructions on driver removal
Went into safe mode & used Driver Cleaner Pro

Stiill insafe mode used CCleaner in Issues mode - it found 634 issues - selected to fix them all. (is that a lot??)

Removed the folder the current drivers were installed to.

Tried to install the drivers in safe mode but that message came up again :

said in the top left hand corner Severe - then text underneath read :

Set up did not find a driver compatible with your current hardware or operating system set up will now exit.

So booted up into normal bootup & the drivers & cp installed ok

Hope I did all that as you have suggested - I will let you know how things go.

Cheers for now

634 Problems!!! Yes, that's a LOT.

Since it found that many, when you get back into normal Windows, run that Issues app a few times. It will likely find a few more. Run it until there are no more issues found.

Do keep us posted on the results.

Was concerned that after doing that the pc wouldnt even boot up etc as heard so many bad things about messing with the registry.

This program is very highly recommended for just such as this. The more it cleans up, the faster your system will start up. I suggest running it at least twice a month to keep the registry in tip top shape.

Hi

Looks like I am stuck with this problem - the login issue remains I'm afraid, also noticed it happens when I come out of the moinitor being turned off (power save).

I know you have spent a lot of time on this & I appreciate all your help but do you have any other suggestions (apart from reinstalling xp) I could try?

If not are there any other forums you know of that I could try?

Thanks again

There are two other things that come to mind:

1. How many user accounts are on this computer? It's possible that, when the Screensaver, Monitor standby goes into affect, that the user account is being logged off. That then necessitates the relogin. Not sure why it would have to be done twice, though.

2. .NET framework. I recall in earlier versions after installing .NET framework, I would have to login even though I hadn't selected to even use a password.

You can try logging in as Adminstrator, remove any other User Accounts and then reboot and recreate them. HOWEVER, you need to back up any My Documents folders for those user accounts first! This is in case your system also deletes those folders when you remove the User Account/s.

And/or, uninstall all the versions of .NET framework. See if uninstalling these eliminates the login problems. You might do this one first before removing the User Accounts. See if this resolves the repeat login problem. If it does, you might be able to reinstall only the latest .NET framework and hope that it doesn't recreate the problem.

But, if you do have several user accounts on this system, it may simply be that any active account is being logged off when things go into standby.

Good luck!

Hi guys

Thanks again for the advice

Uninstalled .NET V 2 (only one shown in the add remove programes area) - problem remains.

Under User Accounts I have 5 shown - 3 are for family members - one is shown as Guest & the final one is ASP.NET Machine A...

This final one - should it be there? looks a bit odd to me.

Came across this on one of my searches - can you check it out please & let me know what you think? - I know it refers to XP Pro but just wondered.
