I've got problems with cats 6.8-6.10 using less than 2Gb of memory

what the hell is goin'on?
I'm like

I've just removed one pair of 512Mb memory from my system (borrowed from work for some testing); now I'm with 1Gb
and I've discovered that my old problems with my ATi card are returning

the only driver that is working for me is 6.7
with the others I have serious game performance loss, corrupted textures and crashes to desktop

the only thing it's in my mind is that ATi has altered memory allocation in 6.8 to 6.10 drivers
