Default GF 7900 GTX: Poor video quality + Fraps problems

Greetings,

I just built myself a new computer, but I'm far from satisfied so far.

The system is:

Intel Core 2 Duo 2.13 GHz
ASUS P5B Deluxe motherboard
2 GB Corsair XMS2 PC6400 RAM
512 MB GeForce 7900 GTX (NVidia 91.47 drivers)
2 harddrives (1 x SATA + 1 x SATA II)

First problem I've experienced is that my DivX/XviD files has very poor quality over my old system (Pentium 4 Prescott and Radeon X800 XT).
It's very dark and gritty (I believe that's the right word - English is not my native language). It looks like the video playback is using too few colors. Like watching a JPEG picture with only 256 colors.
I run the same codec pack (K-Lite) as on my old computer.
Do I need to turn NVidia's PureVideo on somewhere? I tried looking for that setting - but without any luck.

Second problem - and this might not be related to my graphic adapter but I'll try it anyway - is that when I'm trying to Fraps in my MMORPG (DAoC) I'm getting a poor FPS of 15-20 FPS where my old computer had no problems of getting 30 FPS.
I'm getting around 50 FPS on both computers without recording.

Any ideas to what my problem could be here?

EDIT:
About the video problem. At first I had a very red picture, but I fixed that by messing around with the color settings for videos. But I cant get rid of the gritty picture. It's really annoying. The picture on the X800 XT was much much better. I guess I could try and put that card into my new computer and see if that makes any difference.

Had a similiar problem with my system when I got it, goto nvidia controls in the taskbar right click it and a menu will pop up, goto custom color settings and set to default, see if that helps any. sorted mine out.

That helped on the colors and brightness, thank you.
But the image quality is still poor/gritty compared to the X800 XT.

expectedly, as the Radeons have DivX encoding tech,

update to 92.91 just make sure you use the old cp and not the new one.. the new one is the root of all evil
