1. to install using CP, do we still hafta uninstall ALL ATI old drivers n utilitiies as well? basically i can't find any installation process explanations on CP.
2. im planning to use 6.3 instead of the latest 6.9 coz i read a testimonial saying 6.9 only works on X series. what do u guys think?
3. at ATI website, they asked us to register our product so that they can give the drivers which suit our cards (esp those manufactured by ATI's partners). But my Evil Master's not listed! is the drivers provided in NGOHQ can b used for my Evil Master Radeon 9600??
HELPPP! This is my first time updating the driver since i bought it on December 2003. So I'm nervous! So thank you in advance for everybody's help |
First of all: Greetings and Welcome to NGOHQ!
You do not need to be afraid or nervous.
Since you are updating the drivers for the first time in a very long time, it's important to find out what other system specs you have. What motherboard, CPU, how much and what kind of RAM memory? So, do give us that information ASAP.
All Radeon Cards will use the unified ATi Drivers and all cards beginning with the 9550 series are supported with the latest ATI drivers....including CATALYST 6.9. HOWEVER, several users with other than X1000 series cards have been reporting issues beginning with 6.7.
Personally, I'd encourage you to use the NGO Optimized ATI drivers 1.6.6. These are the same as CAT 6.6 drivers and have worked quite well on my own rig. I also installed them recently on another system that has a 9600 series card.
AND, yes, it's quite important to uninstall everything related to ATI prior to doing an update. You can uninstall things using the ADD/REMOVE option in the Windows Control Panel. Do NOT reboot until everything is Uninstalled. You'll get some prompts to Restart but don't do so until all ATI-related software is removed. (If you have MMC installed you will NOT have to uninstall it!) We're talking Display Drivers/Control Panel/WDM drivers only!
Once you get these uninstalled, reboot and let Windows redetect your video card.
Once that's done, install the drivers of your choice.
Good luck! and be sure to let us know the result.
