Default Nvidia Geforce 7900GT 512MB Locking up! Help me please!

I recently bought this machine from ibuypower.com:

Case ( Coolermaster Ammo-533 Gaming Tower Case w/420W Power Supply )

Power Supply ( ** iBUYPOWER Recommended ** NZXT PF-500 500 Watt Power Supply )

Processor ( [Socket-AM2] AMD AthlonT64 X2 4600+ Dual-Core CPU w/ HyperTransport Technology )

Processor Cooling ( CoolerMaster Liquid CPU Cooling Fan System Kit )

Motherboard ( Asus M2N-SLI Deluxe nForce 570-SLI MCP Chipset w/7.1 Sound, Dual Gb LAN, S-ATA Raid, USB 2.0, IEEE-1394 Dual PCI-E MB )

Memory ( 2048MB [1024MB X2] DDR2-800 PC6400 Memory Module Corsair XMS2 Xtreme w/Heat Spreader )

Video Card ( Nvidia Geforce 7900GT 512MB w/DVI + TV Out Video )

Hard Drive ( 300 GB HARD DRIVE [Serial-ATA-II, 3Gb, 7200 RPM, 16M Cache] )

CD-RW/DVD-RW Drive ( [** Special !!! ***] 16X Dual Format/Double Layer DVD±R/±RW + CD-R/RW Drive Black )

Sound Card ( Creative Lab Sound Blaster Audigy SE )

Network Card ( Onboard LAN Network (Gb or 10/100) )

Operation System ( MS Windows XP Professional Edition w/Service Pack-2 )

My machine freezes up often when playing games and videos. I've tried the following drivers: 92.91 beta, 91.47 and 91.36 in that order. I used Driver Cleaner each time I switched drivers. I don't know what else to do to try and fix this problem.

I just tried: DHzer0point_0.8466. I was playing BF2 and my machine rebooted after about 30 min. At least it didn't just freeze up like before. Does anyone know how my bios on my mb is supposed to be set up? Maybe there's a problem there.

Just tried: nvodngov18456. My machine locked up 5 min into playing Company of Heroes. Before this last crash I checked the card and the power connections and they all seem secure. I don't know what else to do.

Uhhh rebooting sounds very much like overheating to me. Did you even check the temps in the bios when you got rebooted? Do that if a clean reinstall doesn't work.

I just tried a fresh reinstall of windows with all my mb drivers and AMD cpu drivers. I ran the geoforms screen saver while monitoring the temps. My GPU got up to 88c and my CPU was up to 55c. Unfortunately the machine froze up after 10 min of the screen saver running. A few questions that I have: Will underclocking my card make it more stable? What are the right settings for my bios suppoesed to be? (I have the latest bios flashed in). I tried running memtest the last night and I left the room and my machine was frozen when I came back after an hour. The memtest coverage was up to 155%. I dont know what else to try. Also my brother says that I should have bought from DELL but they were way too expensive compared to ibuypower. Does anyone have experience with ibuypower?

Sounds like you need more cooling in youre case. And do you have latest bios for youre mobo?? And EVGA GFX cards are often OCéd, so try to down clock the gpu to the clocks of the standard 7900GT has. Really try to find all the newest drivers & bios´s for youre hardware.

And be happy you didnt buy Dell. Dell is junk. Sure they can make decent pc´s, but if you need more memory or other hardware to add it will cost you atleast 200% more than normal retail prices.. Youre pc is good.. But i would buy more fans or water cooling for some of it.

Ps. Maybe you need a better PSU?? 420W is a bit on the downside!!? Or now i saw you have a 500W psu, which one are you using? And how are the 12v+ rails?? Amps??

Can anyone tell me what my GPU & CPU temps are supposed to be when they are processing graphics? My CPU has the CoolerMaster Liquid CPU Cooling Fan System Kit. Also what should I try setting the core and memory frequencies to? The defaults on the card are: 560mhz core, 755mhz memory.
