Default Inno3D GeForce 6200 256MB AGP problem

Sorry for the longish newbie post but I have been trying lots of stuff from this (and other) forums over the past week and have run out of ideas...

Have got one of these cards in an attempt to play AOE3 (it wasn't happy with the Ti4200 i had before) but it has been playing up something cronic. Have finally got it to run dxdiag smoothly (and a number of games) but it still has a few problems:-

1. When starting up many direct X games, the intro/adverts/movie don't always display (plenty of sound though) but the main game plays OK once these are over.
2. In Tycoon City New York, the gameplay is jumpy.
3. In AOE3, the intro movies don't show and the main menu screen doesn't render properly (it is just blobs of colour) and if you are unlucky, the menu is hidden behind a patch of colour (I think this should be the sea?). However, if you can get the menu to display, you can run the game no problem.

The current setup which is the best I have managed to get is:-
Gigabyte GA-7DXE [amd 761 chipset] with latest BIOS
Athlon XP 2800+ cpu
768MB PC2100 RAM
400W Akasa PSU (16A on 12v rail)
NGO 84.56 driver (the 91.31 driver and the Nvidia/Inno3d ones are not as stable)
Windows XP pro SP2

The BIOS has no AGP settings at all (must be something to do with AMD761) so I can't play with fast writes etc. I have tried both the Windows XP AMD761 driver, and the latest from the AMD site. Nodifference. I was looking to try the nv4loop patch but haven't worked out how to apply it yet and there was a mention it was for VIA chipsets only. Apart from a motherboard swap (and more RAM) I am running out of ideas. Has anyone got anything they can suggest?

Not yet. Although I have done an OS repair. Have also found a thread on an AMD forum which suggests there is a problem using GeForce 6 series with the 76x series AMD chipset.

Thank you for your email. This is an issue which has been reported to us and have been able to reproduce. We are currently still investigating this issue and hope to have a solution soon for the next driver release. The bug since to appear in driver version 80.51 and above and affects only Geforce 6 family products on the AMD 761 chipset only.

At least there are a few more tings to try in that thread starting with the 7x geforce drivers.

Update: Have installed the Nvidia 78.01 forceware drivers and the 6200 is now working far better than it ever has before. Tycoon City New York still bombs out after 30 minutes but it used to last 5 minutes. AOE3 is working. Just have to see how long for.

Final update: Have replaced the AMD761 based mainboard with a Via K600 based one and all the problems have gone. Can use the latest NGO drivers and everything so there is definately a problem using Geforce 6 cards on an AMD761 based system.
