Ok first of all im new to this. and i dont like registering to sites like these because most times people dont really help out they just flame you and send you to hell....maybe i can be proven wrong.

Recently i bought the game F.E.A.R..i downloaded the Demo a few days before and i noticed that my card couldnt handle it very well..infact in low settings it sucked. still i liked it very much and ive read reviews about it so i gave it a go. Im not saying im dissapointed in it because im not the game is great what im mad at is my card. It isnt a great card but it handled most games at mid settings. With FEAR even on low it craps out. I cant seem to find a good set of settings that will let me play at a reasonable frame rate. Any help toward this issue from more knowledged gamers like me would be most appreciated. My system specs are (dont laugh)

CPU: Athlon XP 2500
RAM: 512MB Corsair Value Ram
GFX: Chaintech GeForce FX 5700 256MB (non ultra)
HDD: Seagate Barracuda IV ATA100

PS: i know that this game has DX8 settings for lower cards. still i suck at this plz help.

i mainly do the flaming around here but only when there are idiots involved,.. you have a valid question and we at ngo will try our best to help you.

Fear uses high levels of SM2.0

download rivatuner and use it to force sm to 1.4

the 5700 is a weak card both in tech and architecture which was due to the directin nvidia took on the GeforceFX series

the core utilises a partial precision method which mixes 32/16bit shaders, this caused it to be its downfall as the direct x specs called for full precision of 24bit shaders

it also only utilises a 4piped pixel pipeline which restricts it greatly, and coupled with slow 128bit ram, it really bites.

use the Dx8 settings and try newer drivers..

Ever since i found the NGO drivers i havent used any others. They are very much profesionally packed with great enhancenments. They are what lead me to this great site. Thx again ill go see what i come up with.
