#1 | | Guest | RADEON 9200 SE Problem. Hello all, I had a 3D RAGE II PCI card and had got a new one now which is RADEON 9200 SE 128Mb TVO. I CANNOT install the new card in any way !! It will only boot in safe mode (which means it's a driver problem). I have tried ALL ATI drivers and some of the NGOHQ optimizing drivers but nothing seems to be working. After every driver installation I'm restarting my computer and after it boots – it's just crashing in the middle of the start-up process (then I have to go to safe mode and remove the driver – so I can try the next one). Currently I got both cards plugged in, the old one is PCI and the new is AGP). I tried changing some features in the BIOS, tried using several "driver-cleaners" utilities – but still no joy. I will really appreciate it if someone can give me a direction or solution. My PC Details: AMD Athleon 800 Mhz, 655Mb RAM, 80Gb HD, Win XP SP2. Many Thanks Papagaio100 | |

#4 | | Site Staff | Your motherboard supports AGP v1.0 (X1/X2) - Voltage: 3.3v
Your Radeon card requires AGP v3.0 (X4/X8) - Voltage: 1.5v/0.8v
Now everything seems to make a sense? |

Try to remove the other PCI card and try to install the latest motherboard chipset drivers. Format may help too! |

#8 | | Advanced Newbie | That motherboard is the MSI K7 Pro motherboard... as stated before the motherboard only supports 1x/2x... And the video card is NOT AGP 1.0 compliant. I am afraid that the motherboard is too old to support that video card.
I talked to one of the heads of the MSI forum about this issue... and he stated that the only reason why that AGP card works in safe mode is because of the VESA support that is built into most video cards. Which basically means the ability for the video card to work in DOS, and other environments where drivers are either not needed, or required.
The possability of getting that Radeon to work in that motherboard with any kind of driver supported acceleration is slim.
I wish that I had better news... but, after researching this problem of yours for nearly 4 hours... and talking with someone from MSI... I am afraid that it may not be the answer that you want to hear. But, it is the correct answer.
