Question 1 x EVGA 640MB Card or 2 x 320MB In SLI Mode?

Hi Guys, I have a question? I presently own 2xEVGA 8800GTS (Superclocked) 320MB Cards which Im using in SLI Mode.

Now I know a guy who is selling a EVGA 8800GTS ACS KO Card 640MB for a great price, which Im thinking of purchasing and replacing my 2 Cards with this 1 Card.

In light of clock speeds, memory and timings etc, the cards are almost identical, but my question is?

If I did purchase this card would I been increasing performance or decreasing performance?

For example: When I use both my cards in SLI this doubles the memory bandwidth to 640MB anyway, but does it double the amount shader memory, texture memory etc?

Now I cant have 1 640MB card and 1 320mb Card becuase if I did this, the 640MB card would underclock to 320MB specifications? so I would not get 960MB I would still only get 640MB vRam.

So I would sell the 2 EVGA 8800GTS 320MB and only use the 1 EVGA 8800GTS 640MB?

I just cant figure out if my performance will decrease or increase 2 vs 1 card? becuase this 1 card would match the power of the 2 cards anyway or does it?

Is 1 card better than 2 in SLI Mode? what benefits would I get from purchasing the card with the higher memory or should I just stick with the 2 in SLI?

Any thoughts and opinions would be welcome thanks.

Thanks but I know the 8800GTS is old now, but still my cards are powerful enough to play the latest games at medium and high settings, and when the EVGA 8800GTS KO ACS edition was launched in 2007 it retailed at £400, of course times change but considering I can now get one of these from a guy who is willing to sell it me for £50 its a great deal.

a 2nd hand G92 like a 8800gts 512 or 8800gt or a geforce 9600gts goes for the same price, and its faster.

6 months ago i sold mine asus 8800gts 512mb for €50.

I think if I were you I would keep your 8800 gts. If the games you play support sil then I would think your 2 8800 Gts would be faster then one 8800 gts with 640. how much is he selling it for? why I ask is because you can get a gtx 275 for 219$$ http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...tx+275&x=0&y=0 Witch would have 896 Mb of vram and evga sells one with 1792 MB of Vram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-476-_-Product

You can also get a gtx 260 for as low as 164$. I would just get one of these cards or keep the ones you have now and w8 for a gtx300. Here's a good gpu site i like to use http://www.gpureview.com/show_cards....=609&card2=475 you can even see how fast a card should be in sli or crossfire.

well 2 8800GTS 320's would die above 1280x1024 in newer games, look for either an 8800GTS640 to pair with yours or get a 9800GTX used.
