Default CCC Host Application has Stopped Working...

This particular error just started popping up less than 24 hours ago. It developed after I spent some time digging around trying to find the Saved games for Morrowind...which I only installed a few hours before for the first time on Windows 7 x64. (I eventually did find the storage location but not before I made a mistake in initiating Hidden files and folders where I was trying to SHOW Hidden files and folders.)

It was during this that the error started popping up and I had to disable CCC from trying to start up with Windows to avoid having this popup every minute or two.

So, I took what I thought was the easy way out and did a System Restore to the most recent Restore Point that was prior to the error.

It didn't work!

Some research indicates it's related to NET Framework not being functional. But, I've made sure that's not the case and NET is fully functional via the Turn Windows features On or Off and making sure that NET is fully functional.

I've also completely uninstalled the Catalyst drivers and removed the HD 4770 from Device Manager so that only the Native VGA driver was installed.

I then did a Registry cleaning, rebooted and attempted to install the latest 9.9 drivers again.

I'm still getting the error....

Anyone here been down this road and found the fix?

Greatly appreciate it!

P.S. This does not affect the drivers themselves. The HD4770 appears to be fully functional in my 3D games. There's just no control over it via CCC.

Try to uninstall and delete ATI Catalyst files/entries in the following locations:

• C:\Program Files
• C:\Program Files (x86)
• C:\ProgramData
• C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local
• C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming
• HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software
• HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Wow6432Node

If its not helping, try to reinstall NET framework and make sure you have the latest updates from Windows Update. Does it appear on Catalyst 9.8 too?

Just got home from work..and a VERY difficult day with serious flooding in the area. Roads closed and some washed away. Houses and automobiles under water, etc. Really very bad stuff!

Anyway, I tried 9.8. 9.8 Hotfix as well as deleting the ATI folder and removing the video card from Device Manager. Will spend some more time on this over the next day or so as I have the days off. [Hope it doesn't take that long, though!]

UPDATE: No fixes yet. But, I did also discover that I cannot change my Desktop Background. I had placed a jpg from Mass Effect on the background that's located on a storage drive. I tried to change the background image last night and it refuses to let me. I even moved the entire directory that the image is in to a completely different hard drive. The image is still there.

So far, I'm having absolutely no trouble with any of my games. Played Morrowind a bit, Mass Effect, and even ran 3DMark '06. Everything related to 3D seems to be doing fine. I just cannot make any changes due to CCC not starting up. [That is, unless I install another app to do so.]

I'm about to just do a Windows Repair to see if that fixes it.

I've uninstalled a few things and presently can make the changes to the Desktop Background image. Still no fix for the CCC, though.

Hmm,personally,I don't like CCC too much..
I installed it on 7 64x just to fix the scaling on 1280x800 resolution, after the fix,I just uninstalled it and installed ATT...
Why do you bother about CCC anyways?

I've used and like ATT, too! But, for a long time it failed to unlock Overclocking. [Whether it still does, I don't know as I did stop using it due to this.]

Mainly, I've been helpful to other ATI users for a few years. Without CCC it's difficult to be as helpful. Unless you want to direct people to not use CCC.

But, more on topic, if you really don't have something to contribute to how to resolve the issue, why are you responding?
