i guess is what i meant to say but maybe you understood me initially, i didn't think i was too clear on my first attempt to explain the situation...
If I'm understanding you correctly, I'm not sure what is wrong at your end. I'm using the ATI DVI->HDMI converter and a HDMI cable to my LCD monitor. I've been using this since last December. I have yet to have to unplug the HDMI cable nor do I have to switch back to DVI and back again to HDMI to get a signal. Never have had to do that and I upgrade the drivers upon each new release.

This "known issue" you mention is something I only read from you. I have not seen it mentioned anywhere else.

Is this only for those cards that have HDMI native connection on the interface?

one thing is, i always uninstall the old driver first. though they say now it isn't necessary, installing the next driver has never worked for me without an uninstall of the previous driver first, perhaps because i never installed ccc, maybe that's a requirement for it to work without an uninstall...

the hotplug thing, i read it in the release notes on, 9.7 or 9.8, see the "known issues" section, i can't quote it this minute but it's there i promise...

i am using the dongle here as well, the way it's working, if it were native hdmi i suppose i'd be truly fucked...

i have tried several monitors including my 24" asus and 3, 40" hdtv's, (evaluating new products)... always have to run it with dvi first and then hotplug the hdmi otherwise it scales the image and looks horrible, with 9.6 this technique works though it's a pain, with 9.7 and beyond, so far, it just never produces a proper 1080p on hdmi even after hotplugging...

sting, i will try to get the avivo version tested today...
