#1 | | Advanced Newbie | | M/B: NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI | | GTX 285 & Intel i7 920 After the three threads I've made about ATI and AMD, I've decided to go back to Nvidia and Intel. After doing a lot of research I've ended back up in the Green Camp (Nvidia) because of their extremely high performance GPUs that just stomp ATI cards into the ground. Here are the results for a GTX 285 benchmark on Crysis with Very High Detail, I will also include the 4870 X2 in this benchmark:
GTX 285:
1680x1050: 32.8
1920x1200: 27.3
2560x1600: 17.1
4870 X2:
1680x1050: 42.6
1920x1200: 36.5
2560x1600: 23.7
The GTX 285 may preform slightly worse, but you also have to take into account that it also costs much less. A GTX 285 may cost $330 while a 4870 X2 can cost can cost $450.00. So the X2 is about 33% more than the GTX 285, with only about a 8.5 FPS increase in performance.
Now that we've gotten the graphics card end cleared up, we're going to need a processor to power these monster graphics cards. This where the i7 920 comes in. Clocked at 2.66 GHz and with 8 virtual cores, it is a processing powerhouse. Also, the OC'ing (overclocking) ability of this processor is amazing, with some people saying that they have reached 4.0 GHz on stock cooling! So let's imagine we overclcok this guy to 3.6 GHz, enable hyper-threading, and get tri-channel DDR3 RAM. We now have something that can feed information to this GPU most likely quicker than the GPU can handle. So if you want, this processor gives you the headroom to add 2 or more graphics cards in SLI or CrossFire to make your system even more powerful. The new technology coming out, Hydra by Lucid, will allow graphics cards to scale at 100% of their performance, so 2 GTX 285's in SLI will give you 34.2 FPS on Crysys with 2560x1600 resolution. Who wouldn't want that!

if you researched alot you would have provided more information to those benchmarks,
but ok, mr. "Not Sure" on your OWN goddamn motherboard >.>

Second, I was doing this in a hurry so I didn't have time to do more research. If you don't like the review do one yourself. |

#4 | | Advanced Newbie | | M/B: NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI | | Here's your extra benchmarks: COD: World at War (Highest Detail): GTX 285:
1680x1050: 109.5
1920x1200: 95.5
2560x1600: 66.1 4870 X2:
1680x1050: 120.0
1920x1200: 111.6
2560x1600: 88.3 Far Cry 2 (Very High Quality): GTX 285:
1680x1050: 84.4
1920x1200: 76.9
2560x1600: 58.5 4870 X2:
1680x1050: 107.4
1920x1200: 106.8
2560x1600: 81.1
I still see the GTX 285 as a better choice if you just want great FPS at high quality setting and resolution, but if you're one of the people that likes to brag that they get 81.1 FPS in Far Cry 2 at Very High Quality and 2560x1600 resolution, then get the 4870 X2. |

and second, you just said you researched it ALOT and now you say you didnt get enough time to post what you should have prepared??? Q.Q

Stop telling me that I don't know what my motherboard is, I know that. So what if I don't know what my motherboard is? And I did a lot of research on the card itself, like reviews on newegg.com. What I did not do is read a lot of benchmarks. |

do you know what rigs those benchmarks are from?
the mobos/chipsets other hardware?
bench marks mean nothing to me, if i dont know everything about the rig running the bench mark
since most motherboards have nvidia sided chipsets,
well, most of the more popular motherboards
