A game can be memory heavy (e.g. bad coding, not optimised engine, console clone etc.) but use only a few low res-textures thus resulting in a large system-memory footprint but small video-memory usage and vice-versa. |

GTA IV uses 1.5 GB of memory. | Well with a 512MB card, I can easily use the commandline script to allow GTA to use 700-1GB of video memory, yet in terms of FPS it doesnt take a hit. So either GTA exagerates its average usage, or the PCI-E bus is sufficient for the texture swapping required etc. So I am still dubious if a new card "needs" over 1GB of framebuffer. |
