CPU: Core 2 Duo E6600
GPU: 256MB 8600 GTS
M/B: NVIDIA nForce 590 SLI
RAM: 2GB DDR2
PSU: 750W
Default ATI Radeon HD 4890

Anyone know if three of these in CrossFire would be better than a 4870 X2 or a GTX 295.

LOL, 2 4890's beat a 4870x2

3 wouldnt be much better,

ati makes the 3rd gpu into a ppu, your frames would be more consistent, but would not be any greater than 2 gpus

Single HD 4890 would more than enough.

a ppu is a co-processor, a physics processor

Nope, the power requirements would be too big, it would get too hot and ruin your system.
Theoretically yes, but in reality... no.

It has already been posted on several forums that 2x4890 in CF wins in the majority of benchmarks vs GTX 295. Making it tri-fire would probably help even more.
