Default AGP Suggestions

Hey everyone! As you can see by my PC stats I do not have the latest and greatest machine. Unfortunately I do not have the money to build a new one right now or not in the foreseeable future. Sucks to be broke to say the least especially when I'm dying to build a new gaming machine, but I have to eat also. What I would like to do is purchase a better AGP card that is better than what I have, if possible, to maybe run the newest games. I can run Crysis ok but only at medium everything. I have googled many cards but all the user reviews on some cards throw me off, so I have come to where I should have first, here. I do not ask many questions but if I do need an answer, this is the place everyone should come to ask. Thanks for any info.

Hi mate,

I would recommend you Ati HD 3850. That's the best choice for you if you don't want to uprade your MB and I think that you will be able to play Crysis on med with no AA.

I think hd3850 is too much for your machine, best would be x1950 or 2600pro/xt.

and tbh, there is no such thing as "too much for your machine"

a lot of games are far from CPU limited, it is usually GPU unless you have the latest and greatest. Plus a good GPU will give more CPU time. and a P4 running at over 3GHz isnt the weakest CPU, considering a lot of games don't take advantage of more than 1 core...and current "good" CPUs dont do much over 3-4GHz, and havn't changed that dramatically in pipeline/cache.

just by chance, i have a 3850 agp in my athlon xp 2ghz machine and yes, it does seem to be limited by the cpu. the card will play a good game of rainbow six vegas 2 running in a dual core cpu machine but not the athlon xp, it's just a little too slow to play, even lowering the res is not a great improvement...

i can't recommend getting a new gpu for that system. i would say it is a good time to save your money up and get a new gfx card when you are able to get a complete new system...
