Question HD 2600 COMPONENT problems

hey , I'm trying to switch my nvideo card in my HTPC to this HD card .

I had prolems installing drivers in XP and setting it up , so I bought vista Ul

for this setup . but I can get the drivers installed , , Svideo is maxed at 1024x768 , What is up with that?

I have been trying to use the svideo to component cable that came with the card, and I have nothing but a blue picture in windows.

I followed all tips I could find , not a whole lot out there I could find really , and i'm stuck. really makes me want to go back to either XP or my Nvideo 5200.

I am using the latest Hot fix ? 8.12 rings a bell .

did I miss something , or what ?

here are some details on the setup .

OS=vista Ultimate

HD2600 Pro Agp

Svideo to component cable

Pioneer HD Switching 7.1 ch amp

Song 57" HTDV

anything else , let me know .I hope some one has some idea's , made going to an older driver ? , I cant' seem to find the disk that came with it any more . .

The maximum resolution with S-Video IS 1024x768. You won't be able to get anything over that. It's a limitation of S-Video, itself. If you want higher resolutions, you'll have to use a different connection type.

I did see that in the manual , and while Running XP and omega drivers I was able to run at higher then 1024x768, as well my Nvi card allowed me to run higher , but thats fine ,
Then can I use a DVI to Component adaptor , if so does it have to be an ATI one or can I buy one say from ebay , third party that has the dip switches ,
and Really I can live with 1024x768 if I had too , but a blue screen I can't . makes me want to drap my box of spare parts out and see what works in it.

You can buy a DVI->Component adapter. You just have to make sure the configuration is for the correct DVI connection on the video card.

Here's an example:

thats the same one I was looking at ,
Looks like I'm in no rush now .
I spent the past couple hours messing with settings , uninstalled the latest drivers , installed 8.7 I think ,
that didn't work , so I jsut remote connected to it and messed with the ATI settings for 15 20 mins ,
it now shows component out in the CCC , and allow High resolution . way past the 1024x786 svideo max setting. it also shows the tv as a HDTV where before it wasn't .
I also have the option of allowing it to output 480to1080i ntsc and pal 20 to 60 hrz. this is what I wanted the card to do in the first place. but after my days of reading found that it wasn't possible. once I started to mess with it and got it to do what I wanted it to do , I had my full RGB color , I almost think it has a nicer picture on the pc then the bell box
now all I need to do is get my digital out on my sound blaster working . i think that will be harder .

HDMI is so simple and makes no problems in connecting card to tv. You just plug one cable and you are ready to use it in every resolution what is supported by your tv.

Now i'm typing from my machine connected with hdmi cable to 37" full hd lcd tv, i just plugged cable and was ready to use it :-)

Chimera, I suggest you grab some proper DVI-to-HDMI cable and go with HDMI instead. S-Video is so 90s.

Yes HDMI is much more flexible, and will support higher resolution and also probably give you a higher image quality.

this is , true then I would have to buy an HDMI switch ,.as my amp doesn't have HDMI on it . and If I were to buy a new amp that has HDMI on it , it wouldn't be this year. just because then I would need something with HDMI 1. 3a and Audio passthrough. HD audio. but really I need a new TV first .
so I work with what I have , and manage with what I can do .

SpectatorX , yes I do that too , with my laptop , that has HDMI out on it hooked to my 32 sammy.
