Sticking to the "check NGOHQ's forms every few months and forget about it in the time in-between" method has made it difficult for me to pipe in on this subject. By the time I make it to someone's topic it's usually locked, and I'm never making a topic of my own for it. So with that aside, I'm piping in.
Dear Internet: Is it so hard to
not be twelve years old when you bring this stuff up? Here's an example of how you can ask this question without sounding like someone who can't scrounge up the two bills to buy an Nvidia card (because seriously, is losing Catalyst that important if you can?):
Topic Subject: Hey Reg, any news on PhysX?
Topic Text: Hey man, I'm sorry to be the 100th person asking thing, but is there any news on the whole physx thing? Is Ati being a douche and blocking development? Was it just dropped? (Can't say I'd blame you, the market for PhysX is pretty slim as it is, never mind that for a free PhysX driver) Just asking as one of the folks who were pretty stoked when we first heard about this; it's probably the coolest Ati news since the whole Dawn demo fiasco
You don't even have to go that far. Just be civil. If at any point, lack of news on this is making you
angry, that's your brain's way of telling you that you're checking up on it
too bloody often and must honestly not have much else better to do with your time. I mean, it's not that serious. You forget about it, check whenever you remember, and if it's up, w00t. If not, you go on with your life. If some killer game that uses PhysX to an extraordinary degree gets released, (let's be honest, there's not much out there save for a benchmark, a couple games, and that Cellfactor demo. Heck, that last one doesn't even
work on Nvidia's brand of PhysX if I recall correctly) then accept that Ati's board doesn't support PhysX. Get an Nvidia board or hope that something of similar quality comes out of the whole AMD/Havok agreement. Or get off
your lazy butt and code a
Bullet backend for AMD chips.
Peace.
p.s. Sorry for the Wiki link, Reg, but it's useful for a quick snippet of info
