Default ATI Technologies Inc. - Video - RADEON 9600 SERIES

ATI Technologies Inc. - Video - RADEON 9600 SERIES
ATI Technologies Inc. Video software update released in September, 2007

In windows update any one know anything about this update and wheter or not I should undo it. Strangely this update appears in the high priority colomn rather than optional or hardware so it was installed automatically. Is it a security or Winodws OS specific performance update or is it a driver? If it is the latter why the hell is it under High Priority where it could potentially be installed automatically instead of Hardware? Should I undo this update?

Personally, I don't trust Windows Updates for hardware updates. Is there any specific information under the Details about this update that shows why it was included?

Since you already have the update installed, have you noticed any difference in performance of your video card? Better? Worse? None? If there's no difference or even better, I'd leave it alone or check with AMD/ATI for any newer updates.

No information in details at all. Just says:

What bugs me is that it was in the high prioity tab instead of hardware if infact it is a hardware update. So far the only changes I noticed are:

1. Re-enabled Ati Hotkey Poller & Smart Services which I had disabled to conserve RAM/Increase Boot Time

2. I think it changed internal Driver to Version 8.421.0.0

3. Aletred DDC setting in Control Panel which was disabled but now re-enabled with different settings. I had to re-disable it.

Just noticed some of my pc games can no longer run in full screen mode or crash before even starting. Time to roll back and/or reinstall now

As I said earlier, I really don't ever trust Windows Updates on Hardware Updates. I've had Windows Updates install Audio drivers in the past that weren't even for the Audio device I was using. I was using RealTek and the Updates installed drivers for C-Media. Needless to say, my audio quit working. So, ever since then, I ignore and disable any Hardware Updates for my devices. If Windows Updates throws up a notice, I check the manufacturer for any updates and go with the latest.
